True, I almost didn't post because putting a 1TB SSD at this price, especially with recent deals, felt crazy... but it's the only real option. At least the plug and play is nice. I stopped myself on the Samsung SSD deals because I just couldnt be bothered to update the firmware then open up my PS5... not the biggest hassle but I'm not hurting for room too bad yet either so will just continue to wait it out.
No-name 1TB 4.0 2230s are like $140 - $160 + CFExpress adapter would be more than this.
I think the PS5 advantage is that it accepts physically larger 80/110 mm length nvme drives that can use multiple lower capacity, cheaper NAND packages, where as the xbox module requires much more dense and more expensive NAND packages to keep it ~30mm in length,

Apple had to have multiple international lawsuits before they even considered switching charge ports. The problem is these companies rely on those who don't know any better to spend all their money. I'm not even considering a series x till I can use affordable storage.

And again, the prices you are quoting are for much physically larger drives. To get down the the size of the xbox expansion cards requires fewer chips with higher density, which costs a lot more. The expansion card price should be compared to price of 2230 size nvme drives only, so they're not going to get much cheaper than this.
The problem is that microsoft didn't give themselves enough physical room, who wants a 3" or 4.25" inch lever sticking out the back of their console that is going to snap off. Sony did the right thing, I am trying to put the cost of these cards in the proper context.
