Exactly! I thought I was going crazy?
That's because the trade in value goes from $250 to $200 with that phone. Click different trade in phones to see different values.

Better buying used previous gen flagship phone instead. These mid-low tier phones come with low performance chips and parts, you will have lagging issues from the beginning.
Not true at all. I have the Samsung Galaxy A71 5G (2020) and it still runs very fast and snappy. The Samsung Galaxy a53 5g has a 4.3 out of 5 star rating on Amazon (3,417 reviews) and it also has 4.3 out of 5 star rating on best buy. It is silly to assume that everybody needs a powerful BATTERY DRAINING processor. For regular users especially users who don't do any demanding gaming, the extra cost isn't worth it. You also need to remember this phone has a 6.4" screen. The regular Samsung Galaxy S22 has a smaller 6.1" screen and small 3,700 mAh battery so one needs to get the plus model and that costs lot more. I am currently using a pixel 6a with 6.1" screen and I definitely miss the large screen. I like the 6a phone because I think it has plenty of pros but my old Samsung had its pros too. Samsung performance was solid and it definitely wasn't a con.

* I am no rush to get rid of my Pixel 6a but if I do upgrade in the future, the Samsung Galaxy a55 (later gen) would be among my top 3 choices with maybe Pixel 8a (if they increase the screen size) or Motorola phone.

Anyone else getting lost with all the model #'s? I still have an A71 5G and not sure if this is a downgrade
Specs are pretty close. Trade for free, maybe worth it. Trade and pay $200 for the A54, I personally wouldn't do it.

Only because they allowed a $200 credit for an A51 5G, I decided to snag one for a family member. Here's hoping that the trade-in process isn't a royal pain...

Thanks OP.

Waiting for visible or mint mobile to have a deal on its release day.
Hoping Metro gets A54 and does $49 offer like they did with A53.

Do you have any concrete benchmarks/reviews that describe the performance of these processors, or is this totally made up?

This is an ok deal for those who want an unlocked phone and have one of the trade in phones that they got for free, but for those of us who got the crazy deals on the S22 series phones last year (from BestBuy or Google Fi), this is nothing to get excited about. Not many deals on the S23 series at this point, but I am sure that will change later this year.
Kudos (or frustrated) to Samsung for maintaining price integrity of S23 ultra for first time in eons. I'm shocked 2 months in and no deals on it (except Google Fi for $600). Is this a new trend for Sammy?

I got $200 trade-in on the Samsung A32 that I got for free from T-Mobile a few years back. I have three of these A32s, all free, and will trade them all in for A54s

It still makes the device $250... I still don't think it's worth it

So agreed.
Love A71 5G, it's really better than most of the phones even compared to flagship ones. Only camera isn't good enough.

Google Fi had a S23 deal at launch for $300 for the 256GB version with 120 days service. Now they only have crappy deals with 24 month bill credits. I'm sure the deals will come back at some point. If not, I'll just hold on to my S22 and S22 Ultra and maybe just skip the S23 series. Perfectly happy with the phones. Got the the S22 256GB and S22 Ultra 256GB (both unlocked) for about $250 out of pocket each.

Wow. way to overvalue your own products. An ancient Samsung S10 which I dug out of a drawer months ago & sold for a bag of peanuts has a trade-in value of $190 but an Apple 12mini is only valued @ $185? LOL. yeah okay. remember to pass after you finish puffing on it...
