Although this is true, we must keep this information within context. A carry on is different from a checked bag in the sense that it is being handled by the person who bought it as opposed to baggage handlers flinging our checked bags everywhere. We tend to take better care of our carry on bags given that we're handling them ourselves & hence ABS would serve quite well for this purpose. At least that's the way I see it.

I had the same question.

"ABS - which stands for acrylonitrile, butadiene and styrene - is another high-tech plastic and a common material for hard-shell luggage. In relation to polycarbonate, ABS is lighter, but it is not as durable. Suitcases made of polycarbonate will last longer than ABS and are not nearly as heavy as aluminum luggage."

The first thing to break on a luggage will be the wheels.

ABS just isn't as flexible or impact resistant compared to polycarbonate. It's definitely the cheapest hard shell material, but the likelihood of getting a cracked suitcase is higher on ABS than polycarbonate or even polypropylene.

Well...spend more than $53 because you aren't getting a vastly superior material for free.

Don't get the single wheels but spend more on double wheels instead. I just travel the single wheel hardly move on carpet.
