I mentioned in the beginning of the post that it's no longer sold in warehouse since it's been "deleted" and is now only sold online
- All the recipes they recommend involve cream cheese. I'm not sure if this is because the test kitchen editors like the taste of it, or whether it's because the motor wouldn't be powerful enough to blend a more solid dessert.
- It's loud.
- The Mix-Ins feature pulverizes your mix-ins beyond recognition. If you were hoping for a DIY McFlurry, look elsewhere.

* It's holding up well.
* Costco offers the color coded lids. Kohl's version has gray only.
* We have never used the cream cheese, but from the start experimented with heavy whipping cream and half & half for the person who needs extra calories but does not consume much food anymore. It works with all our favorite recipes.
* If the recipe has a high level of heavy cream, we use ice cream.
* If there's more half & half than heavy cream (for those here that don't need the extra calories but like ice cream), we use ice cream light settings.
* We also use canned fruit a lot... little bit of liquid, fruit, freeze, run on sorbet. Great light treat when working outside in the Deep South in the heat.
* For smaller snacks, filling the jars halfway works well too. So, no need to re-freeze at the end of the day...
The main thing with this is, personalize to taste. Don't let the test kitchen editors dictate what needs to go in...
Here's a tip: for ice cream that tastes like a Reese's PB cup... get powdered PB, Nesquick, a bag of Carnation Breakfast Chocolate, mix with either half heavy whipping cream and half & half or straight half & half.... Get's the pickiest one here to eat a whole 16 oz jar
(PS: we ended up buying the larger version too and it is in good use by now that the temps are in the mid-80s.)

If I recall correctly, I think we got ours from HSN around $100 last year with 5 containers when it was on sale and you could stack it with a new account referral discount. So maybe shop around? But this one here for $120 probably is the best deal currently.
How is the Ninja compared to that?
How long does it take to make a pint jar and hope does it cool? If it's too much effort then it will only be used once in my household.

* Ice cream maker with compressor - these ones are the ones that can actually mix and make something a bit cold (it might not be super frozen but I think it's the best option)
If you want more of a cold instant ice cream, a compressor based model seems to be the way to go. I personally ended up getting one myself from an auction type place, and am hoping to use it this week. Have to pickup some heavy cream and other ingredients for it first though
