These are great watches for this price. I have a regular 6 sapphire and love it. Had it for almost 6 months and no complaints. Buttons over a touchscreen is a great design, especially if you plan on doing anything active. It still gets regular updates from Garmin and the phone and PC apps work great. My only complaint is the charging cable is short. But I snagged a set of two for under ten bucks so that problem was an easy fix.

The band it comes with is incredibly comfortable but I do recommend snagging some aftermarket bands or straps off AliExpress or some other Chinese direct manufacturer if you want to add a little pizzazz to it.

Glass type depends on your usage. I use mine for boating and Gorilla Glass is better for me. Saphire is harder but more brittle and having a high polish, is overly glarey on the water. Gorilla glass is still very hard and is tougher. It holds up better to more day to day knocking around which is inherent in boating. Sunlight and reflection off the water can be brutal . The lower polish on the Gorilla Glass makes it easier to read in the bright sunlight. Also, all the movement on a boat makes a touch screen very difficult to use making push button the wise choice. Just because saphire is more expensive and considered an upgrade, glass choice really depends on your intended usage.

Definitely. I have 6.75" wrists and a 47mm is borderline big.

I will be really big!
I'm wearing a Samsung 5 Pro and it's 45mm. I would go with the Fenix 6 for it has the 47mm screen. However, I plan to purchase a Runner 265 since I only use smartwatch for running and Fenix 6 or 6X is a few years old technology.

I have the Garmin Fenix 5X. It's a very rugged watch, with older digital interface, I'm sure for the sake of saving power, the battery power is excellent if you're not using the GPS for extended periods of time. My biggest complaint and the thing that will keep me away from buying another until they change this design flaw, is the charging connector. Of course within the warranty period of one year, it works fine, but eventually it becomes harder and harder to get the connection mated well enough for the watch to charge. You do need to clean the contacts with a soft nylon brush (e.g. a toothbrush), of course, you're going to get skin and other debris on the contacts, but even when it's clean you can mess with it for minutes, switch the orientation of the plug and you're still going to have problems with the connection. IMO, it's a terrible design. Oh and from the reviews I've read, the solar charging isn't adequate to keep the watch charged, I was excited for the solar version to come out, but apparently it's not solving the problem. Maybe my watch is more susceptible to problems, I suppose if you really want to buy one, just be aware of this potential issue and return it if you notice any issues.

I am also surprised by that solar implementation. I mean what's the point adding like 3 days on top of 21 days on none solar version. You still need to charge, and it doesn't look like you could charge a dead watch by putting it under the sun.

But my biggest issue is how large the bezel is on the 6 and 6x. The 6s has a very nice design but the other two just seems unnecessarily large , which made the watch seems unnecessarily huge for the small display size. I think anyone who hasn't seen one in person, should at least look up the size to see if this is something you would actually wear.

I own this watch. Have for a year or two at this point.
Yes it's big.. I'm only 5'7. If any thing, it's the depth of the watch. Doesn't matter to me, I need to see the screen easily.

The purpose of this watch is a multisport watch. If is the go to watch for triathlete. I was forced to move to this watch to track Open Water Swimming. That feature is only available in a few specific Garmin watches.

What you are paying for are advanced analytics. Meaning, processing your heart rate, GPS etc.. etc.. and determining training performance progress. providing training advice, stats etc.. This extends to sleep, nutrition etc..

I've owned half a dozen Garmin watches.. This one is awesome. I'll hold until a Fenix comes out with significantly more features.

Watches like are designed for performance activity tracking.

Also, get the Sapphire screen. It's built like a freaking brick. I take my watch off once a week to charge, then put it right back on. I've scratched a gorilla screen watch on silly stuff before (pool wall). Not this watch.. it's been through war.. screen still shines like new.

No. Goes well with you iPhone 14 Pro Max, Samsung S23 Ultra or whatever phablet you have :-)

If you're wearing it throughout the day, then yes. For workouts, who cares? Weight is more of a concern for joggers if you can't find a band to accommodate your wrists.

I use a 6x pro standard glass with a screen protector (piece of glass that goes over the top). Haven't scratched it yet and have had it on for 2.5+ years. I went with the regular glass for the better contrast in bright light and the 6x because big batteries matter. No substitute for displacement to use a car analogy. Its nice to be able to use the watch all the time with the pulse ox on and still only charge it once a week or so with daily fitness runs with music on. Less # of charges = less wear on the battery and with a larger battery to begin with I'm sure I'll be fine using this for many years or until Garmin comes out with a killer feature. Nice to have garmin pay on the watch too as a backup payment method just in case. Navigation is meh compared to 7 series though where the option of touch screen input to go with the buttons would be a nice update. Having the maps always with you is great, sometimes you run across poorly marked trails and end up bushwacking. Gives you more options in the backcountry in case something else goes wrong.
Screen protector! I learned something new ! Didn't realize Garmin offered one. Thank you for mentioning this.

I've been wearing my Fenix 6x daily since it came out a few years ago. I'm impressed with the Sapphire glass, I've had some pretty bad bangs that I thought would've surely broken it or scratched it but it didn't and still looks great to this day. I've replaced the band once already and I'm about to buy a third band as this one is starting to fail. I like the oximeter function. I'm usually at 95-97% but after wearing a N95 mask for 15 minutes it went down to 91%. I only wish it had the ability to answer calls.

I have big wrists so either of these will fit.

My question is:

DLC / sapphire (heavier but scratch resistant)

OR

Titanium /Gorilla glass (lighter weight but less scratch resistant)?

Also if anyone owns the Pro Solar, does the LCD backlight light up blue like with a blue backwash? It looks like the the sapphire one lights up without a significant blue backwash. Can someone comment on that?

Referring to a Reddit video I saw:

Completely agree with this. I can go a month before needing to charge. I've had the 5x and 5x plus with the sapphire glass and never a scratch. I've made the mistake of doing mechanic work with it on and it will bang and scrape against sharp edges and still no scratches. However, the bezels got beat to shit. I might've been lied to about having the DLC coating.
