If you know where you want to travel (for the second flight), go ahead and book the primary traveler at whatever fare tier you want. If you are afraid the flight will be sold out by the time you have a companion pass, then book a second seat for the future companion. That way, you have a seat for the companion. If you can, use points for the second seat, as those are fully refundable. Or buy business select if you don't mind having the cash tied up for a bit. When you get the companion pass, cancel the 2nd seat. If there is a seat on the plane, it does not matter fare it is -- you can use the companion pass for it.

Grandma and Grandpa can travel basically for 1/2 off and visit all the grandchildren who live across the country. If the flight is delayed or cancelled they are in no rush to get there. Great deal!

Yea you need to buy a ticket for 8/15-9/30. How would you expect to fly and your companion is free if you don't have a ticket?

If you purchase by 4/5 a flight that is before 5/24, then any flights you book that fly between 8/15-9/30 you can bring your companion for free. You can buy the 8/15-9/30 tickets anytime but won't be able to add your companion until 8/15 as per previous similar promos.

Tell me if my understanding is correct, I'm in Miami...I purchase the cheapest round trip I can find by tomorrow and fly before May (I would do a fly up and back to Orlando in one day) then i can purchase BOGO round trip tickets to lets say LA for travel before late Aug?

Side note: If this is correct, can I reschedule the booking in Aug later out (assuming the fees are stupid)

Yes, but let's stop calling it BOGO, that seems to be too complex for some people to understand. It's a companion pass, look it up on their site. Basically one person you designate to fly with you when you book a flight.

So after your qualifying flight, you get confirmation for your CP. Then, if you book a flight during the window that the CP is valid, you can bring that person along with you for a booked flight (revenue or points). If you already have an Aug flight, you'd have to fully cancel it and rebook at the then-current flight pricing.

It's been answered multiple times. The qualifying flight has to be cash (voucher/credits/card). The flights thereafter can be purchased however.

I assume this means they are about to lower the price of flights to something more reasonable overall and want to lock everyone in at the high prices

Not sure how you came to that conclusion. On Southwest if the price of your ticket drops in price you just "change" your flights to the same one and you are given flight credits of the difference to use later. I usually have a few hundred dollars in credits floating around from this.

You don't have to rebook your flight in August. You do have to wait until your eligible CP is active on August 15 to add to the reservation.
