Light those PS5's up! Crazy how you have to pay $360 for 2TB on Xbox Series X. I started buying games on PS5 now because the memory price on the XBOX. I'm not an Xbox hater or PS fan boy I like both systems equally. I'm just stating the facts. Seagate has the monopoly on XBOX memory.

This isn't a very good deal at those prices when you can get the 990 Pro for a dollar or two more.

The 990 pro deal didn't come with heatsink, so that's more than a dollar or 2 more...

Even a 10 dollar additional heatsink doesn't justify it. The 990 Pro simply burns up the charts for only a little bit more.

In addition, if a motherboard already has a pre-installed NVME heatsink, then it is a no brainer to go with 990.

Western Digital is making a drive now too.

The trouble is that the underlying 2230 SSDs that are used in these are still too expensive. 2230 SSD prices have been falling, but they're still nowhere near the 2280 SSDs that are used in PS5. There's an SD post right now for a $150 1 TB 2230 SSD and this deal shows that you can get 2 TB of 2280 for less.

This is a brilliant drive but don't be fooled by the "up to". My empty drive got about 5900 and about 6300 using the Samsung software. It's still plenty fast!

Would this (in a USB enclosure) serve as a decent external drive for Mac Time Machine backups?

Probably overkill but yes it would work. Get a USB-C enclosure with enough room for the heat sink or get the 990 Pro without a heat sink (and better power efficiency). I bought a 2TB 980 Pro with heat sink a week ago to put into my sons new PS5. I haven't installed it yet but just for fun dropped it into a PCIe adapter that I then plugged into an eGPU enclosure (Sonnet). I was able to max out the Thunderbolt 3 interface easily with around 2350 MByte/Sec sustained read and write speed. A little faster than the internal SSD of the 2018 Mac mini I had it attached to.

Deceitful lol. You must be really bored to be labeling people as deceitful on a "deal website." Amazon lists msrp as $229 btw.
