BTW, this is clearly decoration not actual towing / recovery equipment. Much like those Jeep owners who have 2 Jerry cans and a offroad jack on a vehicle that has never made it on to a gravel driveway because it might get the underbelly dusty.

Only real way to know is to send it for some metallurgical testing... Guessing those complaining have already done that but don't want to share their results.
