That wasn't the original thought, but it definitely worked out that way.

These games have always been released in two versions, but differences are just in some of the Pokémon you encounter. Most people get one and move on.

Sorry all, my original post was $48.99 but the next day dropped to $42.00 shipped and sold from Amazon. I had them partial refund the drop yesterday but looks like it went back up again after one day.
