The refurbished Kindle Paperwhite from 2015 (also called the 7th gen) is on sale for $20 at Woot right now for the used-good condition. I bought one of these a couple of months ago and found it to be a nice upgrade from the 2014/6th gen paperwhite I already had - it was a lot faster.

Is it easy to sideload books not purchased from Amazon and keep it on it? I'm googling but thought I'd ask as well.

EDIT: NVM. I googled it and am going to assume it's accurate...

eBooks can be added to your Kindle from Amazon via Wi-Fi, or you can use an email or your Kindle's USB cable to transfer existing eBooks from your computer

The General Steps to Transfer Books to Kindle
1 Connect your device to computer via USB.
2 Double click the drive to open it and view the folders.
3 Select the item you want to transfer (mobi or pdf).
4 Copy books to the folder (documents) under Kindle drive.

Been using this for about 6 years now, only issue I've had is a sticky power button that's more of an annoyance. Reads fine at night. I'm more than happy to spend money to upgrade something needlessly but there just isn't any reason to. Only reason to upgrade a kindle is essentially if you don't have a paperwhite one, or if it breaks.
