Oh snap, this is spitting distance from the Sapphire 7900xtx I was looking to get. Might reconsider.

A 4080 should be $600, $700 at best

I just got this at microcenter for $1129 (price went up now). It's a pretty good card, runs real quiet and cool with no coil whine. I am using it with a 7900x. I had a 7900xtx GPU, but returned it for this. I am kind of an AMD fanboy, and I really dislike Nvidia. But dlss3 is like magic, and is a must for 4k high framerate gaming. So I swallowed my pride, and went Nvidia.

Saw it and was quite tempted for that price...Was also looking at the 7950x mobo combo to go along with this. Decided to just hold off, still think the 4080 is overpriced and the 7950x combo keeps dropping (799 now).

I have a 4080 and its a great card. It runs cool and doesnt even turn the fans on in half the games I play. If youre a gamer, consider the newly release 7800x3d over the 7950x. Im sure microcenter or newegg will have a combo in the next couple months.

It's all just nuts to me as every new card is multiples of a PS5/XB. Certainly seems like the GPU cartel is happy to push more and more folks back to consoles...

I don't game that much on my PC and do stuff where multiple cores would benefit (converting raw images to jpeg, video, etc), which is why I'm eying the 7950x. I would love a 4080 though since the apps I use can make use of the CUDA stuff and when I do game, I see my 2070Super showing its age.

Yeah it's pretty crazy...Both X and PS5 still look great even with adaptive resolution needed for 4k. I'm happy as long as the game runs at 60fps on my TV.

I have a flagship last gen card, and PS5 (and every generation of PS).
on one hand, i agree with you completely, the gaming experience on a top tier PC between PS5/XBOX is not triple or quadruple.
but consider the following:
1. people buying the graphic card may not be gamer. i know for a fact that my graphic card spend way more time running training sets than it is gaming. and this is before people mining crypto currency. and i wouldn't be surprised if someone run a number and find out vast majority of graphic card sold in the last 3 year did not spend their life in gaming rig.
2. PS5's gaming experience is great, as long as you playing on a title that PS only. for cross platform games, PS5 is showing its ages: shorter draw distance, less texture detail, less eye candy features. do i think those features worth 4 times the price? no, but for some? absolutely.

Good card, but if you're looking at this price point the 7900xtx might be better. Cheaper and is 24gb vram

consoles game prices are way higher than pc, and the games run worse..
we're running high refresh monitors, vr setups, etc

So, nearly the same price...is there any reason I would choose this 4070 over the 4080 that's on sale at newegg? I'm building a machine for video editing. TIA
