I don't think its a big secret anymore, but I think manufacturers including Levis sells different SKUs depending on the quality and the brand. I remember buying some "name brand" jeans from Costco a while back, and the quality was abysmal. It was nothing like the usual stuff I bought in retail.

I have a bunch of Costco clothing, but jeans are just a non-starter for me.

It is true that Costco often has their custom variants from some brands that sometimes are lower quality.
The 505s I brought there are good though. Not sure if the ones from the Levi's store are different, but the Costco ones are good imo.
