Lot of sour grapes comments here. Lol

The M3 is the best vehicle I've ever owned and would buy again without hesitation

I bought a Tesla and most Tesla buyers don't tell the truth about EVs. YouTubers say only good things about them and they don't tell the truth.EVs are really fun to drive and faster than any other vehicle I drove. Technology is good too. But, 1. Phantom drain 1-5% battery drain per day just like any smartphone. You don't lose gas when an ice vehicle is parked. This is really bad when you forget to charge and you park your car at the airport or family or friend's home, where every mile counts. If you use sentry mode, you can lose 10+% per day. 2. Glass top really gets hot and you need to have the AC running while the EV is parked, which uses the battery a lot. 3. In the winter, the battery loses the range a lot. 4. You will have the charger connected all the time because of 1 2 and 3. Once you buy an EV, you will know. So, is it really saving money when it's plugged in all the time? And super charger is expensive.. same price as gasoline. 5. When you travel with an EV, expect to add at least 1 hr time to 3-4 hr trip for charging and getting to the charger. If you really want an EV, buy also an ICE vehicle.

Agreed totally on all points. Also I would add

5. Range isn't really what they say. MY LR 330, expect atleast 20% less in normal conditions and more in really cold winter or really hot summer. I heard some say it could be as low as 210.

I am seriously considering a MYP for its towing ability. Tesla has always been interesting to me because of their self driving. But it sounds like it has recently been slowly going downhill due to regulations? Can anyone comment?
I have a month old Model Y long range. I started to try the auto steer function and its pretty good. I had doubts about its capability and trusting it completely drive on highways. But, it the roads are marked on both sides, it does a good job, As soon as the lines are faded or at a merge, it gets confused and rocks. So it shows the blue warning light on top of the screen to take control as well as a warning message. So these days, I just go to the second lane from right and leave it on auto steer. I set the speed limit exactly as the speed limit.

My insurance is 1800/year even though I never had an accident caused by me. One accident I had was one lady rear ended my old SUV while I was stopped at the STOP. And no tickets at all. I live in NYC.

I am 50/50 with the vehicle. Comfort level is very poor. You will feel the ground. The QC is poor. Stand behind the vehicle and view the area of 2 rear glasses meet. You will see that its not straight. My friends MY has the bulge on the left, another friend has its on the right side. Mine is in the middle. Also, the gaps between the joints are not in sync. The steering wheel is a little stiff compared to my other vehicles. Cant make a full U turn. The latest update of "parking assist" is a joke. Since they removed the sensors, the cameras cant really measure up the parking distances. There are many videos online.

I bought the vehicle just for local drives as I have a lot of local driving. I wanted to buy either a VW ID 4 or the MACH E. Preference was Mach E. But the nonsense that I need to go thru the dealership is too much to bear. I learned that from buying a Mitsubishi Outlander 6 months ago. Toyota was notorious charging a markup of 7500. I showed them my middle finger. 5 of my friends bought the Outlander within a week from the dealership offering no markup.

The vehicle is not up to the hype. It's an OK vehicle.

you are comparing the cost to insure a model S and X to a bolt?

Yes based on your proof a y cost more than a bolt, but saying 5k here is kind of misleading....

I have the Model X. It doesn't cost 5k to insure.

This is a big one, and true here as well (Colorado). When it's cold here (think below 30 degrees), battery range plummets. And that's even with the re-do of the car's system for the heat pump. My first Tesla was a 2019 M3P, and the range was anywhere from 300 +/- on a 70deg day down to about 175 on a cold day. Current 2023 M3P with the heat pump is 310 on a 70deg day and about 210 on that same cold day. Those are 100% charged numbers but I only 'fill' to 90%.

The portable EVSE is no longer included with the car purchase, but the car does now include a heated steering wheel which I very much appreciate.

Anyhow, I jumped back in to the Tesla system two months ago when the MSRP was lowered to get it under the $55k cap for the $7500 fed rebate. Combined with my local state rebates, it made the car almost $20k cheaper than 6 months ago. For me that was a win, and it's pretty tough to beat for around $46k all said and done. Yes it needs Carplay.

And BTW, my insurance is $73.10/month through USAA for very, very good full coverage.

This is true for all electric cars. Heating is highly energy intensive.

Be careful. Tesla employees watch all your camera footages and share them between them.

There are active functions that need power and that increases with optional ones, such as Sentry mode and cabin heat protection.

Heat rejection tints help keep cabin cooler than outside temperature temporarily, but the cabin will get hot sitting in the sun long enough.

EVs in general are nice if your workplace has chargers. Also nice for commuting to work, but not good if it's your only vehicle and you do roadtrips.

Don't buy an EV if you think it's saving the planet.

I bought a used 2016 Model X and I've had all the EV first time buyer shock. it came with 22 inch wheels and that alone is about a 5% decrease in range. Along with a host of suspension issues that cost $3k plus a battery heater that cost $1k. Now to break even, I need this thing to last me another 4 years with out any issue....

Owning a tesla was easy when everyone was making over 150k a year in an economy fueled by low interest rates.

With all of these layoffs going around in big techs, pretty sure the demand is softening for a 50k electric cars
I wish that was true in a selfish kind of way, but it's not in my experience. I've been trying to buy a BMW X5 45e or 50e for a few weeks now but dealers are not budging much off MSRP because of supply/demand for those model & because the 45e still qualifies for the tax credit until the 17th. OTOH the gas-only X5 models can be had for 6-8% off MSRP.

I started looking at the Tesla Y because it seems like a better value vs an MSRP X5. Im not a fan of the Y's interior options. That, not $, is what holds me back. Also, unfortunately, the avg car costs $40-50K now out the door. $50K doesn't get you luxury anymore. Maybe near-luxury, but certainly the Model Y isn't luxurious like a Model S or X.
