1. They're selling tons of hybrids, just not Priuses nowadays in America where many love SUVs and Trucks much more.

Rav4 hybrid really sells well.

In Q1 2023 in the US Toyota sold 5416 Rav4 Primes. And 994 Prius Primes.

Tesla sold 85,000 Model Ys in the same period. (and another 63,000 Model 3s)

Quote from babygdav View quoted comment :
2. Corollas sell an order of ten times more than Priuses, so Toyota simply made the Corolla Hybrid for the majority of sedan buyers who don't like the Prius hatchback design.
Easier to upsell one of the world's best selling models than the Prius.
The Corolla --ALL versions including gas--- sold over 20,000 less than the Model 3 did in Q1.

Quote from babygdav View quoted comment :
3. Chips shortage and corona[/QU and Ukraine.
Even Epson printers are in short supply, so car makers have even been shipping cars without all the optional electronic add-ons because of this shortage.
Toyota recovered better than the rest because they already redid their disaster supply chain organization after Fukushima, but lack of sufficient chips is simply not a problem you can work around quick (ie. Let's go build another billion dollar chip fab plant tomorrow!).
Then how do you explain Tesla continuing to sell LOTS more cars quarter after quarter?

Are they just vastly superior at supply chain- or is Toyota still using CHIPS as an excuse for weak demand for their vehicles?

Quote from babygdav View quoted comment :
The mere fact the Ford Maverick Hybrid sold out that fast into next year's supply reflects this
No, it reflects Fords inability to scale production quickly.

Which is the same issue Ford is having with the F-150 lightning and the Mach E (and GM is having even worse with their EVs... so is most of legacy auto)

I bought a MYLR just recently. Build quality is good. I don't have many complaints. Except one. The tires and rims can get marked up. Just search for curb rash. It's common on these cars. A few pages back, I saw people asking about the price of insurance. Mine is $427 for 6 months fully comprehensive with American Connect (through Costco). My wife has a 2018 Model 3. Hers is $426. So it it entirely possible to get insurance for less than 1k a year.

All these comparisons with the Bolt downplay the fact that the real gamechanger is the Tesla Supercharger network. Here in California, they are everywhere and in places which are convenient and not off the beaten track.

Recently I was driving 120 miles one way and stopped off at Costco. They had a supercharger there. Parked it for 10-15 min, plugged it in, no need to mess around with credit cards or adapters. I charged up and ran in to get some groceries. It was more than enough to get home. I had to run out of Costco early and stop the charge. There was zero wait on a Saturday afternoon for any of the charging bays. That wasn't the case with the long gas lines that I noticed at the nearby Costco gas station. Also since we have solar, once at home, you're essentially charging for nothing. Total cost for a $240 mile round trip was essentially $12 (and that was expensive daytime 45c kWh)

If you're getting a cheaper Bolt or a more expensive EV such as a Kia EV6, Hyundai Ioniq 5, Volkswagen ID4 or even a Polestar 2, you're not having access to the Tesla supercharger network. It really does make a massive difference. You can argue that the interiors or the ride is better, but having to use Electrify America or one of the others pales in comparison. It's just a waste of time and energy when you find that a lot of those chargers don't work or don't give a consistent charge. Check youtube videos on that network and you'll see what I mean. You can buy adapters that connect to all the charging networks, but the supercharger network really is extremely convenient for long trips and it just works

Again- is Tesla just VASTLY BETTER at supply chain?

Or have we again caught you not understanding how insanely more profitable and efficient Tesla is as a manufacturing company?

Realistically, you'll want to break down profit per vehicle and examine buyer demand trends.
Ok.

Tesla crushes every other brand in that metric.

https://www.visualcapitalist.com/...t-margins/

Tesla made $9574 net profit per car in 2022.

Ford lost $762 per car in 2022. They had so many unprofitable models the few profitable ones didn't help.

Even Toyota is FAR FAR BEHIND here- making only $1197 per car...almost 8x worse than Tesla.

As to buyer demand- Tesla sales were up almost 40% YoY in Q1. Almost everyone else was flat or down- even the gainers were mostly 10x lower than Tesla.

But it gets even WORSE for legacy auto-- because they're LOSING money on... their EVs. That's part of why they've done such a horrible job of scaling up production.... right now the more they make the more money they lose.

Tesla doesn't have that problem, hence why they keep growing production and sales-- with a CAGR averaging more than 50% over the last 10 years.

Quote from babygdav View quoted comment :
Yep. And that's why Tesla stock is down 42% in one year....

Sinking ship, dear...

Bit of a cherry pick there eh?

Tesla stock is currently:
Up 76.41% year to date.
Up 821.63 percent in the last 5 years.
Up over 14 thousand percent since their IPO.

They posted more profit in 2022 than Ford and GM combined

Their market cap right now is higher than Ford, GM, Stellantis, Toyota, Honda, Mercedes, and BMW combined

Quote from babygdav View quoted comment :
They didn't break out the Tesla vs other.

Given over the period studied roughly 8 of every 10 EVs sold in the US was a Tesla (in 2020 79% of all EVs sold in the US were Teslas)- why would they?

But by all means if you have any actual data to show us proving that matters- instead of just a handful of scare headlines (which even then the last one you posted ALSO admitted gas cars catch on fire far more often- so that was hilarious) please show the data.

You're just INCREDIBLY bad at facts my dude.

Say I'm a 25 year old recent college grad and want a Tesla. I'm in an apartment and park in an open lot. Am I out of luck? What do people do who rent and don't have garages or power in their rented garages? Am I stuck with a hybrid?

Absolutely not. I rent and I charge at my apartment parking garage for free and I make frequent use of the free Tesla Destination Chargers or Volta charging stations whenever I am visiting those places. Tesla Destination Chargers are FREE of cost at several hotels, vineries, coffee shops, restaurants, museums etc. And if I am running below 20% SOC (State of Charge), I would let me car precondition my car battery and immediately use the nearest Tesla superchargers specifically V3 superchargers which has peak rates of 250kW per car. For road trips, on the touch screen, just put your end destination, add stops if you would like and the system would automatically tell you where to stop for charging and for how long. If you do your own research, you can pick and choose V3 superchargers instead of V1 and V2 which have maximum power of 150kW.

Not sure id want to quote Tesla recent sales too much. They sold like 10k S and Xs last Q? Once real competition came they lost their old market.

Maybe they can make and sell 5x the number of 3s and Ys down the road, maybe they can't as that market also dies like S and X sales have shriveled.

Or maybe no one buys cars in 2030 at 2022 volumes anyways, as everyone has a 200mi range self driving scooter with a TV over the handlebar that only cost 3k. So you have 1 car not 3 in big households, and the single folk just scoot and maybe rent a truck 4 times a year as needed that self delivers and self returns itself.

I know some people go to corporate offices at the weekend to charge up. Not that I would advocate that of course. Lots of hotels also have free charging. You can obviously use a supercharger but it'll be more expensive than charging at home. But there are off peak rates. You can also buy J-1772 and CCS adapters for your tesla and essentially use any charging network like Electrify America or EVGo. Some are free. If you download the Plugshare app, you can see what charging networks are nearby your home or work. Ideally you want to charge at home, work or in school. If you're a recent grad and nearby your college, you should check with them for any preferred rates. I know it's a lot lot cheaper for my son to charge when he's at college than for me to use that same charger

I've owned significant TSLA since the start of the pandemic. I'm still up something like 800% in 3 years, so please do keep on buying! I'll gladly keep buying my 50k gas guzzlers with my tesla stock proceeds.

Why? They're a record pretty much every quarter.

Uh... what?

So- first-they built about 20k... but Tesla began exporting them to China and Europe recently-- so half of them are still on boats waiting to be delivered they just hadn't reached their buyers by end of quarter... so that 10k # isn't near as "bad" as you suggest.

Second- S/X are a TINY percentage of Teslas sales- and have been for years.

They sold ~10k S/X.... and about 412,000 3/Y

And 3/Y sales continue to grow like crazy.... the Y was the best selling crossover/SUV in the US in Q1 2023.

Not the best EV one- the best one of any kind.

The 3 was the 2nd best selling sedan in the US in that period, only a couple hundred units short of #1 (the Camry)

And they've already announced they're building a new factory in mexico that'll be making their next-gen car, production likely to start late 2024--- that'll be smaller/cheaper than both of those and drive sales even higher as the TAM in that range gets much bigger.

The guys you paid to prepare your data for you do a really great job.

Shame they were let go in favor of ChatGPT though, as evidenced by that one guy who couldn't even defend EVs in his own words, LOL.

All stocks are down this year..

The manufacturer selling the car with the highest profit margin, and making records sales every quarter is a sinking ship... because the stock prices say so.

lol ok....

You can keep wishing though.

Wait till the next model of Tesla comes out that will be even more affordable for everyone and will crush competition, not just for other EVs but ICE as well.

As of right now, only Tesla has the means ot make EVs more affordable for everyone while still giving folks access to all their software capabilities.

And the main reason for that is, once again, their manufacturing advantage.

People just don't seem to get it.

As consumers, this is what is best for us because it forces other manufacturers to bring better cars for lower prices. If they dont then people will speak with their wallet. And they already are, which is why Tesla is making record sales every quarter, while you have cars like Lucids sitting at the dealership.

You ignore the hidden tax of RWD -- Supercharging.

RWD still suffers Supercharging slowdown from 250kW to 70kW after 80% battery full. You'll charge much longer in a RWD to get the same range as a LR.
I usually supercharge at like 10% and get 100 miles in 10 minutes. then about 50 miles in another 10 mins. I cant remember exactly what it reads at 10% i think 300kw? then drops steadily from there.

I usually just grab a bite then when im done eating i leave the supercharger.

...this thread has a deal score of +142 and even more Teslas are being ordered.

Like I said, people are going to look at facts and speak with their wallet, while haters gonna hate.

Hopefully you also have saudi aramco stocks, they are having record profits because OPEC is price fixing like crazy. Its the death rattle of oil countries.

People with solar will still keep buying teslas in droves, most americans remember what happens with saudi oil money.. usually funds deaths of americans.
