Can someone explain to me why you need cash to pay for a model 3 in order to get the tax credit before 4/18.

If you don't need to buy I'd say wait. The prices will keep dropping. There is so much competition in the EV world right now Tesla prices will continue to drop IMO

You can pay however you want for M3 RWD. Just have to take delivery before 4/18 to get full tax credit. There are plenty of non-tesla owners and tesla haters on this thread who'll provide misinformation.

Tesla adjusts prices according to quarter sales. They don't really care about competition. Tesla may not have the best quality control, but they make up for technology and infrastructure.

And you think Quarterly Sales has nothing to do with competition? All companies manage the prices based on the Sales and the Sales are always related with the competition.

Sure, if you have $48,000 in cash laying around and can buy next week. I personally would go with the bolt. It's almost $20k cheaper and pretty much the same car.

Most people don't buy new cars with 100% cash. Even if you have the cash to drop it's not a great financial decision to get rid of so much liquid assets. Get a low interest loan and invest the cash elsewhere.

What do you consider low interest? Car loans are going for at least 5% APR with the cheapest bank.

I think that's what the OP is implying. Borrowing cash right now is more expensive than if you were to pay with cash. High yield savings % is still less than loan %. If you can finance at 0%, then you have a point.

Again actual facts prove you wrong. Hyundais warranty claims rate is more than double that of Tesla.

Latest data available on warranty rates by brand is here (from late 2022)

https://www.warrantyweek.com/arch...21006.html [warrantyweek.com]

The number is claims as a percentage of sales.

Some bad brands (lots of warranty problems) are VW at a horrendous 4.5%, Kia at 3.0% and Ford and GM both at 2.9%..and Hyundai at 2.7%

Better brands include folks like Nissan at 1.2% and Toyota at 1.0%.

Guess what Tesla scored? 1.1%. The second best brand of all brands sold in the US.
wow according to a website no one has heard of and rates all Chinese cars as the best cars on the planet by FAR. Ranks BYD and NIO much higher than Toyota.

Anyways, do you think getting Warranty on a Tesla being a nightmare multi month long wait, and having to drive to ONE location in 30 mile radius at some warehouse, has anything to do with it? compared to a Hyundai deal 10 minutes away on average? Or do you think Tesla having 10x less features and buttons than Hyundai have anything to do with it?

I have many friends with Teslas and they all complain about issues.

The website is the website of a business that has reported warranty data for over 20 years.

And is reporting actual warranty claim rates based on data in each car makers own published financial disclosures.

Which they explain on their home page.

That you couldn't be bothered to check.

So do you have a BETTER source or did you just hate the facts so much you tried throwing shade at this one without knowing anything about it?

Again your not having bothered to even check WHAT the data actually is is showing.

Those aren't "ratings"

Those are the actual warranty claim rates of each company as derived from theactual annual reports of each car company

The reason for the low rates of Chinese companies can be understood pretty easily if you bothered to know...well... literally anything...about the topic.

Chinese car warranties tend to be shorter, and cover less, than western warranties do for starters.

For another most of those lowest-claim-rate companies WELL below 1% have only produced any significant number of vehicles very recently- so their claims rates SHOULD be very low unless they're complete garbage- thus their rates are hilariously low between that and the previous fact cited on covering less to begin with. For example the data in this report is from 2021.... Nio the previous year produced less than 50,000 total vehicles. And the year before that only about 20,000. Tesla in contrast has been mass producing EVs for over a decade now, with annual production by 2015 already larger than Nios in 2020 so those rates are already normalized just like the other legacy automakers-- the Chinese ones aren't there yet. And mostly won't be for a few more years.

The couple of longer-established chinese companies on there have rates pretty close to Toyotas.... because they actually make very good stuff. Toyota themselves being shocked how good they were- to the point they actually formed a joint venture with BYD specifically because of how impressed they were by the quality of their vehicles.

There was a critical turn of events in 2017 when Toyota's top engineering leaders, including then-executive vice president Shigeki Terashi, drove several BYD cars such as the Tang at its proving ground in Toyota City near its headquarters in Japan… the design and quality of these cars showed levels of maturity, yet they were much cheaper than comparable Toyota models

I just picked up a model Y (on 3/31) and this is our first EV/Tesla. Wow, the technology is amazing. Its fast and have great handling (well balanced because of the weight distribution). The cons are the poor exterior qc (panel gaps etc) and also the cheap interior. I mean the interior looks fine but way too much carpets and not enough plastics (you'll know what I mean when you see one in person). Also the sunroof, it gets uncomfortable on a hot sunny day.

Overall very happy owner.

Also the model 3 is going to have a new redesign soon

Do you mean if you leave it parked you find the interior too warm on returning?

First- turn on cabin overheat protection... that'll cap the temp to start with.

Then, a couple minutes before you have to go anywhere, open the app and turn on the AC.

You'll get into a nice cool car every time.

not sure if he lives in a sunny area but for me in socal, it can be so sunny out that while the AC does a good job of keeping temps in check, there's just no getting around direct sunlight

i got my roof tinted and it barely does anything right now in the spring, i'm almost certain i will need one of those detachable shades for the roof come summer when every day is 90f+ and sunny for 3 months straight
