Can someone comment if it is a good bag or not. I heard some things on other osprey bags about not having a water bottle holder, high center of gravity etc. Is this a good choice for a day trip hike?

the description of the bag makes it pretty clearly for office and school. Not that it'd suddenly break when taken on a hike but in a soft bag like this I think id store my water in the main compartment.

I have had exactly the same backpack for over a year. It's one of the most favorite ones I have ever had. Sturdy, water resistant (able to handle light to moderate rain), useful pockets and attractive. One thing I would keep in mind: side pocket for water bottle. It's definitely keep it in place and protects it from scratches and stuff. However, it's somewhat hard to pull the tab to push the bottle in. It is not too bad tho, I can live with it. Smilie
Laptop compartment is wonderful - well padded. There is zipped pocket for ID and stuff. Also a compartment for my ipad.
Outside compartment is super useful for key, snacks…
Shoulder strap has meshed small space to keep lip palm.
I travel with it too. It has enough space for 2 days (dress pants and shirts) and does not look bulky.
I think if you are looking for attractive and useful backpack, you might consider trying it. Smilie

I have several osprey bags the daylite series is the worst among them (the ones they market for day hikes). I'd prefer an Ozark trail from Walmart tbh..

I have a couple of their school/work bags, atmos (larger backpacking one), and a travel setup from them they are all awesome though.

Ops sorry just forgot to mention, it's likely more useful for work/school commute than other light weight bags for hiking. I don't see why it cannot be used for hiking though…

To answer your smartass question, Osprey makes an extremely high quality product and they have a lifetime warranty. If it can't be repaired, they'll replace it.

I have an Osprey Porter 46 Travel Backpack and an Osprey Daylite Plus and they've served me well for close to 6 years of multiple use and traveled with me internationally with ZERO issue.

If we are unable to perform a functional repair on your pack, we will happily replace it. We proudly stand behind this guarantee, so much so that it bears the signature of company founder and head designer, Mike Pfotenhauer.

It's missing a lot imho for a hiking day pack, the top two things..

No external water bottle holder, this means your water is in the pack and for two reasons that's first is if it spills you get everything wet, second it makes it where you have to take the entire pack off unzip etc to get a sip..

Second thing is the lack of a waist strap or even chest strap, even for light weight day packs ( think ~10lbs) you want these things for longer hikes it helps a ton with the bag not bouncing and putting weight in the right places. it also allows on the waist strap for pockets in some cases as well.
( notice this pack with the waist strap and external water bottle holders ( https://www.osprey.com/us/en/prod...6_550.html )

Does this mean you can't use it for day hikes? of course not, but it's going to have some features you'll want if you get more into it. I also noticed that the padding when compared to their hiking series is different and the airflow probably won't be as good at first glance as the hiking series. ( for ~ $10 more you can get a legit 18l hiking one on sale, I have no clue why someone would buy this if the reason was to primarily day hike )

This backpack does have an external water bottle pocket. The design is a bit unconventional with a full coverage mesh, so it may not be something for everyone.

Actually does have a bottle pocket. It's just a bit more discreet than the usual elastic band and netting. If you watch the 60 second video in with the photos of the product they show it.

Cool, I stand corrected on that point Smilie the design is super flush which would make it hard to get to without taking the pack off in either case ..

I still think the lack of chest / waist strap, angled easy reach water bottle slots ( most day packs have on both sides ) , and the lack of padding designed for airflow you would be silly to buy this pack instead of something like this one for a little more https://www.osprey.com/us/en/prod...8_683.html

Damn. This is pretty much a done deal right? I doubt there's gonna be more stock.

My wife says the yellow one is prettier. I lean towards what you're saying if the intent is to hike with it. But we will be using it to tote extra layers of clothes for the kids as we walk from the parking lot to events/park/etc. I don't think osprey recommends this one for distance hiking. I believe they consider it part of their campus style packs.
