Point them to their own website page on your phone when you are in the store next time:
Recycling Services at Staples [staples.com]

It clearly says an entire category of:
"Rechargable batteries
Nickel cadmium (Ni-Cd)
Lithium ion (Li-Ion)
Small sealed lead acid (SSLA/Pb)
Nickel metal hydride (Ni-MH)
Nickel zinc (Ni-ZN)"

If cashier still says no, then ask for their manager and show them the same thing.

For years I've been turning in 10 ink carts every month for $20 in Staples rewards. During this promo is it possible to turn in 10 inks AND one tech item to get a total of $30 in rewards/mo? If so what's the best way to do this, i.e. turn in all at the same time, or ink first then tech, or tech first then ink, or something else?

Yes, have problems with them crediting the tech recycling all the time. Sometimes it corrects itself the following month and double credits. Sometimes it doesn't at all.

A theory I have is when you recycle ink cartridges and tech on the same receipt a lot of the time I don't get credited for the tech the following month. Most times when recycling tech on its own receipt I do get credited. Limited sample size though so not sure if this is just a random occurrence or a direct pattern.

In some cases it is better on the catchup though, then you can stack more together (3 months possibly) since they are kind of a pain to use as in-store usage only. I like to try to use them in combo with the $10/$30 receipt coupons so if I can collect $15 or $20 worth at a time to redeem that is great.
Thanks, sounds like I'm not alone on this.

I don't believe at this point that it matters whether it's single receipt or separate receipts. Limited sample too but I had a situation when cashier forgot to do my tech recycling, so she did it separately and yet I did not receive the rewards on time.

I only found out about catch up recently when I simply got too close to the next month's payout date and decided to wait to chat with Staples to save myself some time. To my surprise, I received both payouts together at that time.

Now, of course, I will be waiting for automatic catch up every time, presuming it happens at some point. Certainly stacked rewards work much better together and they also double-stack with 10 off 30 register spits out like you said.

The way I see their recycling page it does say you can recycle rechargeable batteries and it is a separate section that doesn't appear as a "Tech Recycle"

With your argument, you would be able to get $10 coupon for Paper Shredding

So, you could recycle one item each in Apr, May and June for a total of $30 back in rewards. Sweet!

Does anyone know the validity/expiry of these rewards?

I am curious if shredding works or not. I thought it said it is supposed to work for the regular $5 monthly, but how much do you have to shred to trigger it? Will doing just 1 pound for ~$1 cost work? Will the shredding with free coupon work? I actually did try to test the free shredding coupon last month on an account without doing any tech recycling and will report back.

Rewards earned are issued around the 10-15th of the following month and are valid to the end of the next calendar month. So a recycled item in April would be paid out in mid may and valid to June 30th.

May's item credit will be available in June, so you can redeem two $10 rewards certs at once for $20 in goods from 6/15 to 6/30. Rewards certs on good on most items in store except gift cards, postage stamps and prepaid phone cards. You must redeem the full amount of the certs. at once, no credit it given back. You do not earn any new rewards on the redemption value of the certificates.

Tech rewards are valid to use IN STORE ONLY, you can not redeem them online or for online pick up orders.

So are you telling me I could have been recycling random stuff for $5/month?

Could have likely cleared out all the useless cables I have by now.
