I am sure you never used Apple TV before commenting this.
PS: I use Google TV myself.

OP, you should include "Apple TV 4K 128GB (3rd generation) - Wi-Fi + Ethernet" in the title to make the post more useful.

I apologize if this is a stupid question...If I have a Bravia OLED with the Google TV app system, is there any picture or sound benefit with AppleTV that I wouldn't get going through the TV's app system? Or is it all just the ease of use that sets this apart? (Again, apologies if dumb question.)
If it already works for you and you're happy with it then no benefit for you, but these standalone boxes are usually more powerful than what is in the TV

$15 Google TV is far better $199 Apple TV
I have both and much prefer the Apple TV for video stuff, especially Channels DVR. You sound like an Apple hater considering this is $120 and you mentioned $200 which doesn't make any sense. Ignorance is indeed bliss with a $15 Android device.

This is not even close to being true. I have no other Apple devices. I've been using streaming devices for years. This is the best streamer you can buy. The NVIDIA Shield is also very good, but I prefer this due to its size and simplicity. Adding the Infuse app makes it just about perfect.

Ha, very similar experience for us. Years and years ago I tried Roku and FireTV, Roku was pretty good but ads and that were frustrating. FireTV Stick was always terrible.

I eventually got on the Nvidia Shield bandwagon and it does some thing super well, and if you want to spend hours tinkering, not much out there that is better in terms of being able to tinker but also having a solid foundation. But it would freeze up sometimes, or have weird playback issues in Plex. So I bought one AppleTV intended for just our bedroom, and it was a revelation. Lightning quick and immediately loaded apps we use most based on our Apple ID. Beyond just airplay, the kids can screen mirror their iPads when playing games and it just works on the first try.

So I am saying, don't get scared away by the people in here that talk about $15 Android devices. We were daily driving three of the top end of Android streaming devices with one shield per TV and if all you want is a great front end streaming box which enough power for the kids to maybe play some iOS games on or whatever, there is no comparison right now.

If you want to tinker and sideload apps or whatever else, which is fun too, then the Apple TV is maybe the worst platform for it. Like most things in life, it's rarely that one thing is good and another is bad, but they shine in different ways.
I've used almost every streaming platform going all the way back to the original WD HD TV then started using the original XBMC (I sure miss Ice Films!!)

Apple TV is by far the easiest to use. Simple UI. Roku and Amazon are so cluttered. Google TV is ok. Apple 4K TV is Super fast. Doesn't bog down like the Amazon stuff. Like why does the Hardrive get filled up so quick on those?

Ethernet connection is actually 1gb speed unlike the Firestick/cube that max at 100mb/s unless you get an otg connector.

If only you can sideload Kodi or the like. Then it would be perfect. I'll never get rid of my Amazon Cube 2nd gen and 4k Firesticks because of that.

I use to have a HTPC in every room. But when I got TV's that were 4K, I've retired them. Made one into a pfsense box.

If you can afford it, get it. If you can't afford it, Get an Amazon Firestick 4K TV for the fact it being so cheap and the sideloading capabilities.

If the original Ice Films was still working, I'd have all 4K capable HTPCs. For those that used XBMC with Ice Films before Kim.com got thrown in jail, would agree with me 100%

This is just a meaningless response but since you were trying to up the other comment, I'm upping yours
Here it goes
I would even take it if you pay me to take it.

Ok, in reality, I got the 64GB, not sure what gen but I got it for the remote. For my purpose, Apple TV boxes seem the same boring streaming devices to me...but no ads...that's a good thing.

128GB has Thread support while the 64GB does not if that is of meaning to you at all.
What thread support can be used for ?

Is this still worth it with the 5% surcharge as a non-member?

Do a little research and Make sure your Bravia Google TV app actually streams in 4K. Some 4K TV's native apps only stream in 1080p.

Is there anything (beside Apple's walled garden features)which justifies the $50 bump in price over an on sale Roku Ultra? I don't mean to troll here, I just can't see anything which benefits me unless I'm all in on the Apple ecosystem (which I am not). Is there something about Roku which is measurably worse?

My house is wired for gigabit, I would be using the box for a bunch of regular streaming services and local/remote streaming in Plex. Nothing fancy, I just want something responsive, stable, and reliable.

The only thing I can think of would be using the Apple TV to stream Steam games from my PC using Moonlight or the SteamLink app. I'm pretty sure Roku doesn't support game controllers, so I suppose that would be an advantage to Apple. But I have a SteamLink box now and don't use it much as it is.
For years, I have been getting Roku Ultras because it was the only streaming device that supported the Xfinity Stream app, so I have a lot of experience with Roku Ultras. Unfortunately, I have no choice since Comcast is the only provider in my area, so I'm stuck with Xfinity. Recently, the Apple TV started supporting the Xfinity app and coincidentally, the 64GB 2nd-gen Apple TV 4Ks went on clearance at Walmart for $71 each and I was able to buy 2.

The performance and polish of the Apple TV is like night and day compared to the Roku Ultra. Also, no ads in the Apple TV.

I also have a newer Samsung TV and its built-in apps are not as good compared to the Apple TV because TV manufacturers purposely use weaker processors which sometimes cause issues with streaming. The Apple TV has yet to struggle with any of the streaming apps that I've used.

The Apple TV is just the best streaming device out there in terms of performance and ease of use.
