Pretty good tool. I use it to line up my front and back yard. I do recommend soaking the line in water for 24hrs prior to use so that it doesn't break. Had this issue and was very annoying till I found this out.
For anyone with a small to normal sized yard, no extra brush or land to clear, this thing works perfectly fine in terms of power. I had no problem at all with our 1/4 acre lot!
Agreed here. I've had this trimmer for probably 6 years, and use it constantly. It's perfect for post-mow maintenance.
This is not for super thick trimming unless you have a lot of time and extra batteries. For example if you have St Augustine grass and the grass is sending runners out on to the sidewalk: this trimmer and the thin trimmer line has sopme trouble cutting those thick runners. It will take multiple attempts and that is more time spent. But for trimming blades of grass up next to the hourse, or grinding up a random spindly weed, well it does just fine.
Took some experimentation with different brands of trimmer line to find the right brand for this one to autofeed. Size counts but so does brand apparently. Once I landed on the right brand I bought a 1000 foot spool of it and haven't looked back. Glad I stocked up as Amazon no longer carries the oddly named brand I ended up settling on.
The included battery and smart charger are a nice bonus. Always need more batteries and chargers!
What brand do you recommend? I hate rewinding spools
Not to hijack your question... But I recently ordered this one. Still in transit from UPS. $20 more (currently $99)- but better battery also. I hope I am happy with it. Reviews seem good - if you keep your expectations in line with 18v.

No prob. I am 6'1... The OP one would make me hunch when I was testing in store. Ryobi is confusing on model numbers and stats. This looks to be the longer one I tried in store that was much longer and more comfortable. But I am not 100% sure. It comes today unless UPS lets me down. I'll open it up and update this comment... confirming good for a 6'1 height.

Thanks. I'm still trying to figure out which one to get. I'm 5'10" but I like the look of the smaller one. I'm guessing it's a no brainer to go with the 13" though with the bigger battery for $99

Just got here.
This is a bit different than what i held in store.
1: the shafts attache with two screws vs the plastic twist together collar i saw in store. The two screws are exposed, no plastic cover to hide them.
2: I do think this is a bit shorter than what was in store. Looking on website closer 56 inch length vs 60 inch length? Seems fine for me. Maybe a bit of a hunch if cutting level/flat to ground? I am not doing this hours on end.
The shaft connection seems solid - i felt in store the plastic twist collar ones always felt a bit sloppy/loose... Never tried to tighten them in store either.
Keep in mind this has the edger wheel also - if that matters.

Had another 18v ryobi string trimmer that wasn't good enough for the weeds and stuff I needed to cut. I bought the 40V ryobi string trimmer[directtoolsoutlet.com] when it was on sale for $60 at direct tools (its $64 now) and its leagues better. Obviously, you need a 40V ryobi battery

Damn that one is super nice for $65. Silly question, it says edger in the title, does it come with the attachment or does it have the wheel guide? As a new homeowner I'm terrible at edging the grass without the wheel!

its compatible with that attachment - but doesn't come with it

Ah I gotcha. I see the attachment for $65 on DTO, not too bad at all. Do you feel the dedicated edger with metal blade works better than a trimmer? I worry about messing my concrete up lol.

Maybe the batteries or the trimmer has gotten better, but I had this tool about 5 years ago and hated it. The thing bogged down almost instally everytime I tried to use it. Maybe if you trimmed very regullarly and didn't ask much of it, then it would be fine. It's much like their 18v chainsaw. Will it get the job done if you go slow enough and are patient enough? Yes. However, something with more power will get the job done twice as fast and you can do way more with it. I don't enjoy cutting grass or trimming and this made me hate my life even more.

This has come packaged with a basic leaf blower too for $99 - so this price isn't all that slick though
