Pretty good tool. I use it to line up my front and back yard. I do recommend soaking the line in water for 24hrs prior to use so that it doesn't break. Had this issue and was very annoying till I found this out.

Sorry to hear you don't like this product. I have this trimmer/edger as well as a RYOBI plug-in mower and they have both been great for maintaining my front and back yard. I'll admit that they don't feel like much (lightweight plastic) but they have always gotten the job done and I spent very little on both.

Maybe it's just me!

Wait really? This is a great tip! I've been wondering how to cut down on breakage.
Another random question for everyone with Ryobi trimmers: has the little piece that trims the wire as it spins broken on yours? Mine broke first day. It still seems to work fine, it still seems to trim itself, but maybe it's doing it on the housing now? Read tons of reviews that complained about this.

I agree. I just purchased this last week after my old finally died. I wasn't expecting a great deal from their entry level trimmer, but this was less than I expected. I'll be returning it and getting the next one up in Ryobi's trimmer line-up.
I had this trimmer for a couple years. It works well, but if you're tall don't buy this. The handle is really short. I had to hunch way over to edge the lawn. The larger 18v model for $30 or so more has a much longer handle for the 6' tall people.

18v just isn't enough for this use. Go with 40v or be very disappointed.
For anyone with a small to normal sized yard, no extra brush or land to clear, this thing works perfectly fine in terms of power. I had no problem at all with our 1/4 acre lot!

This is not for super thick trimming unless you have a lot of time and extra batteries. For example if you have St Augustine grass and the grass is sending runners out on to the sidewalk: this trimmer and the thin trimmer line has sopme trouble cutting those thick runners. It will take multiple attempts and that is more time spent. But for trimming blades of grass up next to the hourse, or grinding up a random spindly weed, well it does just fine.
Took some experimentation with different brands of trimmer line to find the right brand for this one to autofeed. Size counts but so does brand apparently. Once I landed on the right brand I bought a 1000 foot spool of it and haven't looked back. Glad I stocked up as Amazon no longer carries the oddly named brand I ended up settling on.
The included battery and smart charger are a nice bonus. Always need more batteries and chargers!

This has come packaged with a basic leaf blower too for $99 - so this price isn't all that slick though

I haven't had any issues with the blade.
