This is for Mar 2024, Air India should turn around by then as a Tata company. Right now though there are no or drastically reduced flights to US due to lack of staff. They have given voluntary retirement for too many people. Cleaning is underway.

I'm a Tata and I still wouldn't fly this, it'll take longer than that to get the planes fixed up and the operations in good shape again

To fly in one of the worst airline in world…..nah.

If your skin color is white, go ahead they will take care of you if flight got cancelled or other issues. But if your skin has any shade of brown, you are screwed.

Air India is been privatized and no longer run by the government so we will see lots of improvements in their services in future

Unfortunately this is very true. I'm of Desi descent, and my wife is white. I've flown my share of AI, and the way I get treated with her and without is night and day. The irony that I get treated way better when we fly together makes it totally understandable why Britain had it's grips on India for so long.

Tata themselves have said it'll take at least 5 years before things turn around. They're expecting to be competitive in 2027-2028 earliest so I wouldn't hold your breath on that. That being said, until United starts doing direct again, we don't have a lot of direct options.

This is what happens when you have some of the dirtiest and the of the cheapest passengers in the world, too...cant blame the airline alone. I'm indian so hold the any outcry.
