Not bad. I believe these are the 8th gen intel cpu, which can be updated to Windows 11 for free.

Their PSUs aren't good for upgrading as they tend to use a proprietary power connector to the motherboard, and I can tell you that their SFF PCs usually won't hold any reasonably available GPU.

Layout changes between model. But the last Dell SFF I looked at (which also had an 8th gen i5 in it), the 16X slot was right up against the PSU. Meaning if you were to put a GPU in it, it would need to be a single slot half-height card, and would likely still choke to death.

Okay deal. The SSD is a Micron m.2 SATA and not m.2 NVME.

It's "ok", just there's so many many many people selling these (i5 version) used for $150 USD or less. I know that can be a "risk", but you would save $100.

(I said $100, because IMHO, you don't want the i3, but YMMV)

yes... but you can easily replace the SSD with an NVMe upgrade without any hassle... the unit accepts both. Purchased a SFF version of one of these for my son for his home office a couple of months ago for about $250 and replaced the 256GB SSD with a 1TB NVMe. Ironically it turned out it's the same model and i5-8500 CPU his company currently has deployed in their offices.

This is a terrible deal: used Dell PC with a 5 generations old CPU? Yeah, no thanks.

then what current gen Mini PC i should get for $200 with comparable performance?

$200 is about all those Intel N100 (and N95 etc.) Mini PCs are going for, with passmark score of 5586.

i5 8500 (non-T) passmark is 9597, so at least on paper it completely blows those $200 level Alder Lake away.

even for the 8500T, the passmark is 7748, thats still miles higher than the N100.

Skip the 7060.. By far the worst dell optiplex model. Had so many bios failures on these at work that 7050s have outlasted them.

Just one example (ebay, so this is temporal): https://www.ebay.com/itm/364218088801

In all fairness to Dell, with the new 4UONLY5060 coupon, you can walk out the door with same from Dell for about $172 shipped and everything, which isn't shabby.
