If you want a high end Japanese saw, woodcraft has a different one on sale every month. Just check their sale flyer. The nice ones run $50 plus, or $20-25 on sale. But I wouldn't get a nice one for my first one.

What do you look for online considering someone cannot "test" the blade beforehand?

exactly this. I've eyed the HF one many times. I'm always taken by how large the teeth are on these blades and that I haven't seen blades with finer teeth (for smoother finished cuts)

For starters, look for a seller who understands that ryoba saws have teeth for crosscuts and ripcuts, not hard or softwoods. Tooth geometry has a huge effect on the cut, and this manufacturer obviously doesn't know that.

For machine produced tools in this price range
/s whatever YouTube influencers are pushing
Gyokucho is a pretty good mass-produced brand. It is what Woodcraft usually has on sale.

Any thoughts on just buying one of the small ones or is the harbor freight? Still a better deal?
