I've been on Nvidia since a 970. I bought a 4070TI and returned it because of Vram and VR bandwidth limitations and picked up a 7900XT. It runs slightly louder but just as cool and only draws slightly more power while being very similar at performance. Expecting a wide gap over the next few years as 12 vs 20GB of VRAM becomes more relevant.

All that being said, I have had more game crashes in the week I've owned this than I have in months on other cards. They are only game crashes, not system crashes, but I've been spending more time that I want troubleshooting. I've been working through trouble shooting steps and have things more stable but not perfect. And a lot of the answer is simply limiting my FPS target to keep the GPU from running at 100% in each game. In the long run, I think it is going to be a hell of a card but a much more stable 6950XT is looking mighty tasty at $600.

The current market sucks, there are some compromises everywhere. Just know this GPU's main drawback is instability at the moment. If you can deal with that, $780 + a game is an excellent deal, TU OP.

I'm hoping 7900 XT drops a bit more in a couple of months. With NVidia having 4 'next gen' cards in the market now, AMD ought to release the rest of their RDNA 3 lineup fast. The 6950XT is way ahead of 4070 in performance while being in the same price bracket. But unfortunately, it's still seen as 'last gen'. The 4070 is not priced great, but it's still marginally better than the ridiculous 4070Ti and 4080 pricing. And so it's going to sell quite a bit. AMD ought to have an RDNA3 competitor at that price. Hopefully that'll be 7800xt. Perhaps with 6950xt level of performance but at a lower power draw, and it'll make an excellent choice at the $600 price bracket.

Layman prediction for the coming months - They'll have 7800xt compete with 4070 at $600. The 7900XT will settle at about $700-$750 and 7900 xtx will be about $900.

These 7900 prices are starting to get really tempting. Good thing I just picked up a used RX 6800 on facebook for $325 to upgrade my ancient GTX 970. It'll be interesting to see how things look a year from now.

That's a hell of a deal. Was it a local buy?

I would assume that since they said facebook it was probably a used on they purchased from somone. Still a good deal at $325, about $100 less than they go for on ebay.

Pretty crazy how fast the price of this new card has dropped well below MSRP of $900 to more around where people thought it should have been priced ($800-ish) to start with.

The $900 price tag could never really be justified with the 7900XTX at just $100 more at $1000.

I bet AMD wanted to price the 7800XT when it comes out at around $750, or $150 lower than the 7900XT, now they will probably be forced to sell it somewhere in the $650-$700 range similar to 6800XT. Maybe $699 for the 7800XT and $629 for a 7800 if they go that route again.

And then there's the 4070 at $599, yikes

So this cards better than a 3090 in every way, but weaker than a 4080 for those who are wondering. The 7900XTX is more on par with the 4080. The 4090 is superior than both and will easily see a 20-30% fps increase in all resolutions.

While I'm not trying to build a budget build and get the 6950XT for $600, it is surprising to me to see the XT/XTX drop slowly.

You think the XTX hits $800 or $700 by July, or so? Especially with the release of the 7800XT?

If I hadn't bought a 6950 XT in January I'd be all over this.

So I'm out of the loop on this as I'm still running a 1080, but as I watch these deals come and go they are all AMD. I'm a bit scared to start something, but why are we not seeing any deals, it seems, on Nvidia?
