At this price point, I agree, esp. since the RAM is soldered and not upgradable.

Personally, I think 8GB of ram is fine for this kind of small convertible with this use case. If you need more ram, you likely need more of a CPU, GPU, screen size, etc. Just like you are not looking to run Warhammer 3 on a phone, you're probably not looking to do higher end productivity work on a 13.3 convertible.

However, I think if you're buying from BB, you're best off looking at all of the 13.3 & 14 convertibles, and open box availability, to see if you can get more value for the $. This is in the right ballpark of price vs. value, but not a screaming hot deal.

With the amount of RAM consumed by browsers and desktop applications it is more of a necessity to have more that 10-12 GB of RAM so usually your go to amount is 16GB. I am not trying to say that browsers are bad these days, its the way companies design their websites, overloading them with video, heavy animations and one page all tools policy. This creates a huge amount of data to be kept on the system memory.

There are plenty of lightweight browsers available, if you run into a performance issue. I personally have not, and am on 8GB of ram.

Is more ram better? Sure. So is a dedicated graphics card, a faster chip, more SSD room, etc. etc. etc. But these are not reflective of the general public. And they result in a higher BOM, which usually results in a higher retail price point.

So, cool to point out soldiered ram is an issue but not so cool to suggest 8gb of ram = problems browsing for your average civilian looking for a work computer.

Anywho, I got an HP Pavilion x360 for around $350 open box with what I wanted, a bigger SSD 512 GB, i5 12th gen, tablet mode for note taking / tent mode for watching stuff on a plane, stylus for highlighting, a bit less battery life than preferred, but completely adequate for my computing needs, with some nifty features to play around with. Arrived in mint condition. Can I game? lol just old stuff and gamepass. But for a lightweight, laptop for office productivity that I don't mind banging around for the next few years it's all I need. Research says that open box are likely to have an extended warranty so 2.5 years to see if it can keep up with some bumps.
