S30V with Buck heat treat. Made in USA. IMO, this is a steal at this price.

Is this any good as an edc?

Buck says this is perfect for skinning a large animal, that said it has all the makings of a good edc knife

out for delivery today. Excited to add to the collection. USA made in S30V is pretty much unheard of in my experience. I get this was a sale, but these go for a considerable amount more on eBay.

Received mine yesterday. I have to say I hate it. I knew going in that it would be heavier than I usually look for in a knife this size. Did not imagine the action would be the worst of any knife I have bought in years. The knife is also very bulky in addition to being heavy. Not something I would carry for sure.

I have not taken it apart to see if the action could be improved and likely will not. This goes into the for sale pile.

Got mine couple days ago. It's a hefty knife to be an EDC (doable tbh), but it's definitely a very robust sturdy one. Action is super smooth and the overall quality is above excellent. Great to have it in my collection.

My action isn't so smooth even after oil and constantly opening and closing. The knife itself is big, that said it was never marketed as a edc knife. Buck says this knife is for skinning large game or hunting overall

Guys this knife is so friggin sweet, just gotta understand that this is a "hunting/outdoors" folding knife and not a metrosexual type pocket knife. This could be your knife to survive the apocalypse with bc it's just that substantial, and the handle finger grooves lock you in perfectly. USA and s30v steel is awesome for this price Big Grin

Knife is kind of a mixed bag of good and bad. Good steel, very sharp out of the box. Chunky handle and won't fit in the pocket well but comes with a nice black leather case to carry on a belt. Handle is comfortable with a good grip. The flipper functions as an effective guard so you don't cut yourself. Frame lock locks up nicely. Knife is centered perfectly. Flipping action is terrible. The bearing maybe be defective that's why everyone is complaining about it. Mine has a grinding sound when opening and closing the blade even after doing it more than a hundred times trying to break it in. Dipped it in ATF to make sure the pivot joint got lube. Loosened up a little bit the grinding is still audible. A good knife but is far from perfect. Could be why there is a sale to get rid of them. Not what I expect Buck knives.

Mine didn't come with a leather carrying case, only a canvas one. My knife also has the same audible issue when opening and closing. I lubed it thoroughly and continued opening and closing for a while and the sound is still there. The blade is also off center when closed and is at times touching the side when closed. I also just noticed today that the frame itself is either defective or something because when I squeeze the two sides of the knife together there is a clear and noticeable space where it seems like the knife needs to be. Everything is too loose and the nut isn't. I'll have to contact buck about this and see wether they will cover the bearing or the frame issue or both.

Great steel and I love the feel of it in my hand, that said probably defective
