I've been buying receivers from A4L for probably 15 years now. I always buy refurbs, the one problematic Onkyo I bought years ago had an HDMI issue and Onkyo honored the warranty and replaced the board for free. Highly recommend this seller. I'm currently using a Denon 950H I got a few years back on a pricing error for $299. Not enough reason to upgrade… yet. Maybe next year
Here's the Crutchfield breakdown on RX-V385 v. RX-V4A
https://www.crutchfield.com/S-07k...X-V4A.html

At a glance, the RX-V4A is 80 watts/channel (vs. 70 on the RX-V385), and supports Airplay 2, Alexa, and Google Assistant. Plus the HDMI 2.1/8k support you mentioned. RX-V385 has Bluetooth only, no wifi.

The RX-V385 is available from Accessories4Less for $199 now (also a refurb, but doesn't include free extended warranty):

I can't say without having them side by side, but I bet the Monitor are easier to drive. When I checked my impedance with a meter, it read 4 ohms on the RTi10 towers. The RTi4 bookshelfs read 8 ohms nominal. The 4's IMO sounded the best out of that whole lot, and were very easy to drive. Had I not got the entire speaker system on clearance at Circuit City before they went out of business, I would have went with all RTi4s, CSi3, FXi3 surrounds at the time. Your towers are such a great deal for what you get. Nice looking too.
i hesitated on purchasing them at the time because the price seemed too low, but have really enjoyed them.

Stay away as these are prone to fail and components are said to be cheap junk...

Not to thread crap, but for a little more you can get Onkyo 6050 refurb on ebay.

Goes for $250 to $300
How exactly do you compare receivers..? Outside of the major specs like channels, wattages, and features (4k, Atmos, etc.), what exactly do you look for?

I have a Onkyo TX-NR656 that I've been debating on upgrading but also not sure if it would be worth it.

The Yamaha RX-A2A is also on sale for $550 (52% off). It has higher power and is supposed to be better than the V line. Good deal for a better receiver?

Why so many for sale for parts only? Reviews aren't great on that model.

It was a Costco exclusive and many of these are refurbished from there. People at costco return stuff out of habit. Reviews are pretty good, all budget 7.2 AVRS have issues.

HDMI 2.1 was the biggest reason I upgraded, the onkyo supports it very well
