I loved Seveneves and I liked a lot of the technical/mathematical aspects of Cryptonomicon, but for whatever reason I found the plot just moved too slow, probably because of detail and density. It felt like I was slogging through and had a looong way to go, so I bailed halfway through the book (which was still a lot of reading). This book is very highly-rated, I wish I liked it as much as others do!
I just finished "Once an Eagle", not sure I want to do another 1000 novel.
"Once an Eagle" was good, but some points dragged and the ending should have had his memorial included. Least in the novel, the villain is never punished for his wrong doings. That is pretty accurate in life.

Fantastic book, made me LOL and not wanting it to end.
If you want to get an idea how Stephenson writes before dedicating more time, try the shorter Snow Crash or Zodiac. Both very good too.
My faves by him (besides the above) are Diamond Age and Reamde (Ransomware, anyone?).
Also liked D.O.D.O., not quite as much. The recent Termination Shock is a satisfying read. Anathem is alright.
If you're into historic fiction, The Baroque Cycle has much to offer. Also The Mongoliad (Foreworld Saga), although it's by a group of authors "directed" by Stephenson.
Seveneves wasn't bad, but I feel it dragged on a bit too long.
I enjoyed the book, and I'm glad I read it. But it is really slow and long winded. I enjoyed Snow Crash much more, even though this is a much more complex undertaking.
Be careful with this one. "Okay, it's 1100 pages, but that's not THAT long," you tell yourself. Next thing you know you're halfway through the Baroque Cycle wondering where the last 6 months of your life went

This book is proof Stephenson is really Satoshi Yakimoto, creator of Bitcoin.
Just kidding, but I love this book and have read it twice, and I've only ever read about 20 novels in my almost 40 year old lifetime. It's amazing to me that a lot of his books predate our most current technology, but he nails it and it's sometimes very hard deciphering what is fiction vs non-fiction.
