That 7 with cellular/gps @ $250 has been the best deal so far. Yeah it was green, but looks black. I'd wait for the rest of the 7's to drop to $250. It'll happen but might be ymmv.

I got the non cellular version of the SE for $200 2 years ago in April. Granted it was the non cellular, but I'd recommend saving up a few extra bucks for series 7 with cellular, or waiting for a price drop on that.

Yep, this is my plan as well. I want to stave off the full blown phone as long as possible to delay the social media and screen addiction black hole. I actually have my kiddo wearing a Ticktalk watch right now, and it works well as a phone, but it has broken and had to be sent off twice at this point. Thinking Apple will be more reliable and (gasp) waterproof.
