No, but you need a license to fly in any way that would be done for compensation. So anything that isn't strictly recreation - including wedding footage, roof inspection for free for a friend, and technically even footage for your own monetized YT channel.

To be the most up to date on the SDK info, it was just released for the Mini 3 but Litchi hasn't implemented it yet since it isn't compatible with the old SDK version their app is based off. I suspect they will support the Mini 3 and Mini 3 Pro soon, but have no evidence from Litchi to support my opinion.

I think dji recently released an update, the mini 3 has 48mp option now

The Mini 3 does also have remote id, here's the UAS Declaration of Compliance [faa.gov] for it through the FAA.

From what read, you'll have to retrofit drones that do not have Remote ID in 2024(?) Not sure if I got that right.
That doesn't bug me.
May main concern was the camera.

So as a first-time buyer for a drone, what would I need in addition to the drone only option? How would I search for a remote? Can the Oculus Quest 2 VR headset be used in place of a remote....or...can a android phone (s22 Ultra) be used? Thanks for any advice

I crashed my DJI mini 1 few years ago and lost it forever, still have it remote, is it compatible with mini 3? Also, can I get the DJI $89 2 year replacement with this after purchase? It is available on their website.

Good luck flying it in 50% of the places where you really envision buying this to fly and capture. If you can live with the geofencing and flying in your backyard, then go DJI.

Are you saying that it's legal to fly somewhere you want to, but DJI is preventing you? Unless you mean like National Parks, but they make their own rules.

I used to be able to fly out of my backyard but with the Go Fly app I now have to unlock my zone
Had to do it again in mexico for whale videos and if you don't have internet you can't unlock.
Total pita
I've been looking at Autel nano +. I think you just have to confirm your actions but none of the unlocking yet
