I don't think there is a significant difference between them.

Is your implication backpacking with an 18l? If used as a day pack, what's preventing you from putting a down puffy in this size of pack? And no, expedition weight insulation is obviously outside the scope of what this pack would be used for

Saw a previous model of this bag at the store today. I like the idea of the airspeed mesh keeping the bag away from your back and wick sweat away. It's could serve multiple purposes. a bag that can be a hiking, biking, beach…etc. not meant for carrying a lot of weight.

Have only used Camelbak for MTB. Have had mine for a while. Worn through the waist strap and they send me a new one for free. I think the one I have is called the blowfish but the mule is great as well. I have heard osprey stand behind their products as well. I was looking at this one as a light hiking pack.

I have this. It's an awesome to go back for the kids. I toss frisbees, snacks, paddle balls, diapers, wipes, and 3 water bottles and food and this thing fits all that quite comfortably. Great for light travel to and fro or going on a hike with the kids. Can't speak to hardcore hiking use but as a pack for the day to day or night bag for the inlaws, you can't go wrong..Super durable too
