Microcenter has a 12600K + Z690 DDR4 combo for $299 right now, the DDR5 is not worth it here.

Why would you pair such a high end board with a mid range last gen processor.

With that mind set and logic, why are you referencing this Z690 board as so great (which it is! but...), when the Z790's are out now!? (this is called Sarcasm!)

It's actually a very good fit! (and a great CPU) I have this board, and the cpu combo! Stays cool (DeepCool AS500 Plus fan), lower power consumption, handles anything thrown at it (do not game), and have had no hiccups at all. I have it with 32GB of DDR5 5600 RAM that has great timings! This combo comes with the 6000MHz RAM, but not sure of their timing break down.

That board is almost $550 and can handle 13th gen. If I am spending that much on a board I want an i9. I personally can't put a build together where the motherboard costs more than the cpu, it just hurts my soul. I could tolerate a 13700k, but a 12600k is wasting that boards potential.

I don't see that bundle as including ram at all when I check their website. The i7 bundle does but that's $100 more I think.

It is a awkward time to do a new build atm with Intel releasing 14th gen on another new socket in a couple months. Obviously a 12600k is pretty good for gaming for a few years but if someone can wait that might be ideal.
I wish I'd picked up the 7700x on Amazon last week for $190. That would have had a solid upgrade with on am5 for latest and greatest processor for a couple years

Too much to be stuck with a 12600, 13600 or 12700 minimum, anything else you'd pair with cheaper components

It does not, but at $299 DDR4 is rather cheap.

The i7 version of that bundle does include memory at $350, probably a sharper deal if you only want 16Gb.

It does not, but I'm not entirely sure why one would buy this board for thunderbolt anyways. The 12600k is a great CPU but not "spend a few grand on a workstation with thunderbolt external RAID" good. I imagine anyone considering that would go 13th gen and i7.

My current PC is basically trash now running below 60fps in some games on low setting with an i5-3570k OC'd to 4.5ghz and 16GB DDR3.. and a 1070.

12600 for someone like me is heaven. Actually if i bought this and kept my 1070 would that be worth it?

Motherboard prices have gotten ridiculous. Plus I'm going to wait to see what the 14 series brings, I need something that can keep up with my 1080ti hybrid.

Because I have a workstation with a caldigit ts4 and I would like to have thunderbolt so I can quickly connect either my desktop or work laptop with just one cable.
