I mean pay just $650 and not $675 to buy from the shelf

14" I purchased this directly from Lenovo last month with the AmEx $100 cashback deal and ended up returning it. The screen was horrendous, there wasn't a single angle I could use it at without significant backlight bleed. I loved the keyboard but the screen was a deal breaker for me and I returned it promptly.

This computer is old. Why buy this?
Thinkpads are solidly built they won't impress you with a fancy design they are intended to be workhorses that get the job done the primary customer is a business traveler.

Soldered ram?
RAM on this model sometimes has both one stick soldered and the other replaceable. Sometimes not replaceable at all.

Some models have soldered wifi cards, too. The hardware maintenance manual says AMD models don't have a soldered module, but I've seen a few YouTube teardown videos with soldered wifi. Someone could open it up and verify this.

Removing the case chasis is a little bit difficult on this model as well. Plastic tabs don't release easily.

It's a perfectly fine gen of Ryzen. Would definitely take it over Intel 11th and 12th gen

Not sure what you are talking about, 5000 series CPU was miles better than same generation Intel equivalents. And you are not getting a newest gen Thinkpad at this price for a while.
One big negative with AMD 5000 APUs is no hardware accelerated decoding for AV1 codec. Software decoding is good enough for a lot of old hardware with dav1d, but software decoding is energy inefficient. This feature will matter for your monthly streaming subscriptions as they are turning to AV1 to save costs on bandwidth delivery, and that requires physical hardware decoding.

Other than that, for everything else, seems fine.

I think the IGPU is much better.

That is part of what I was thinking. And also AMD Vega is the worst Video Encode/Decode engine for out there. The CPU is fine nonetheless.

This is totally fine for a normal work machine, I guess. It is good for people who like the Thinkpad name and some extra durability. But otherwise having AMD 56xxU + 16GB at this price isn't very special.

I guess the Costco warranty also helps because Lenovo only gives out a 1 year warranty (where as Dell would give 3)

So long as it is not more than 5 years old, sounds like it ahould:

The transfer and erase sections in that link mention windows and mac only so I would think chromebooks are ineligible for trade in

Costco selling Thinkpads. Sounds a bit strange to me. But also that AMD generation isn't that good. I would hold off until they have Intel 12th gen or AMD 6000 CPUs.
The 5650U is a Zen 3 processor, basically same as the 6000 series. The 6000 series has the advantage in graphics performance (esp. in the 6800H/6800U). None of the "Ryzen 7000" laptops so far have a more advanced processor - many are less advanced, based on the Zen 2 architecture. Zen 4 processors have been delayed for a few months.

I used the ThinkPad P14s, with an identical chassis to this. It was a solid laptop overall, with a superb keyboard, but there are definitely some downsides compared with more recent designs, incl. the 16:9 display, lower-res webcam, poor speakers. There's reasonable upgradability, but be careful opening up the bottom panel, which is trickier than usual.

I'm only reasonably versed in Intel processors, can someone give me or explain to me what a comparable Intel Processor would be for this AMD one?

This is rather loaded for the price, keep in mind that Thinkpads sold at retail outlets like Costco usually only have 1 year warranty versus 3 if you get it from a channel type partner.
With Costco you get a 2nd year warranty included. Could bump up to 3 year warranty with a non-Costco Visa card.

3 year warranty through a channel partner would be great. Probably faster turnaround.

Use cpubenchmark.net to compare. The numbers are usually great estimates

https://www.cpubenchmark.net/comp...-PRO-5650U

Things to look out for are power draw (TDP), single thread rating, and the CPU mark.
