American Tourister still makes some products that feel only like a small step down from the top-tier positioning typically reserved for parent company Samsonite. At the same time, parent company Samsonite definitely pushes products under American Tourister for mass-market through Amazon, warehouse clubs, etc.

This deal definitely doesn't appear to represent some massive discounting of a high-quality American Tourister luggage set discounted down to $80, but rather a low-cost set coming back down to an appropriate price.

Good luck!

Jeez, is this what American Tourister has become now? A cardboard box might hold up better than this!

Thanks for pointing out, I was gonna say the ne image on Amazon comparing size misleads people thinking it is a spinner.

For inexpensive luggage, I think it's serviceable and a good deal. I owned this set in the past. it was fine.

Personally - I'm NOW only interested in luggage with 4 wheels (aka "spinners).

My wife bought this brand of luggage for her high school trip to New York… that was 16-17 years ago. I now use it for my business trips. I don't need this bundle because it's still going strong, but if these are as durable it's a great investment.

Did it used to be better? I always assumed it to be a low quality brand. They were always really cheap. I remember lots of super cheap sales on Sears back in the day, I think. I always stayed away from them based on bad reviews (which made sense. you get what you pay for).

Back then, it was actually made with quality materials.

And "now" what is your first hand experience with the brand?

Nope, just trolls and toddlers so far.

However according to the 7,945 ratings on Amazon an overwhelming percentage of them (90% based on the 4.5/5 rating) seem very happy with the quality vs cost.

My dad has an older set that's similar to this. Still going strong. Talking 20 years old or so.

I had (keyword here) a set from 6 years ago that I had to get replaced.

Not saying this is a terrible deal if you can get several years out of it.

Would anyone mind recommending a few solid luggage brands that I can look out for? Needing to upgrade and would love some anecdotes outside of all the paid promotion articles on Google. Thanks!

I've had exact same carry on for over 10 years and it is still OK. Usually travel 3-4 times/year.
I always check-in the carry on the return flight (I'm sure it got it's share of abuse). I'm not sure if spinners would survive..
