Everyone claiming this is not for sushi has no idea what they're talking about. This is a high grade calrose rice and one of the go to's for sushi in the US. It has a high enough starch content (amylose) to handle being mixed with your seasoned vinegar and still hold together properly.

Edit - I have come to slightly prefer Nishiki over Botan and Kokuho calroses as it seems to stay a bit fluffier after seasoning (when cooked in a Zoji)

A surprising number of sushi places in the U.S. use medium grain rice because the proper type of short grain rice is either unavailable or prohibitively expensive

To the best of my knowledge, nearly all japonica is grown and consumed in California because it requires flood irrigation, and the demand is high enough and the transportation costs low enough to justify the crop

Probably 15 lb.

botan has a 20lb a my local walmart but its about $21 for it now. this is better rice in comparison to botan and delivered to my door.

Absolutely, thank you. This is pretty close to the standard here for sushi, and it works great for it (might even be more what Americans think of sushi tasting like). Calrose obviously isn't the standard in Japan nor traditional but US has a pretty well developed sushi culture at this point and it's silly to call it "fake"

You [also] rinse to remove excess starch. Unless you need glued together rice for some reason it's recommended to wash short grain and calrose 3-5 times (or until water runs clear)

Understood. And I don't mean to unravel the topic here, but from pics it seems bugs are roughly same size as rice grain, so it would be difficult to rinse away. In grand scheme of things, it would probably be tough to get sick form, as cooking rice will remove potential for bacteria.

By who's standards? It's a pretty well known fact that real Sushi is made with short grain rice no matter how its been made here in the US. Sushi is not Burger or Hot Dogs a home dish of the United States. Maybe you should have phrased that "Everyone claiming is not for American Made Sushi"...
