The HEEHRA is not related to the Residential Energy Credit. You could claim both for an installation next year. The HEEHRA is a point of sale rebate program and not a tax credit. It is for low and medium income households only (below 80% or below 150% of Area Median income). It is a very substantial rebate that covers up to 100% of the cost (upto $8000) for low income households and 50% of the costs for a medium income. It is not in place currently as the DOE takes its time figuring out the procedures but expected to be in place by mid 2024.
This is the HEEHRA rebate program. Was passed as part of IRA but the DOE taking its own time in setting guidelines. Expected to be available in mid 2024 and will be a point of sale rebate so you won't have to wait till tax time. https://www.rewiringamerica.org/p...rebate-act
These are the MrCool DIY units, so they are installable without a HVAC contractor to vacuum the lines, etc. The lines come pre-charged with coolant

That is going to vary wildly depending on where you are. Best bet would be to try to hit someone local to you up for an estimate before you buy.
The cost for me was getting power run for the unit. I could have done that myself, but was afraid of not meeting electrical code. Installing the unit was easy and quick and have had no problems since install ~1.5 years ago.

The multi zone ones are so pricey. It would be silly to have three of these lol

Am I missing something here? This is $1,200.. and I've been seeing mini-splits for around $600-$700 range. Why is this a deal?

It says TWO, but the link shows only one? No indication of two?
You can install this yourself.

If you get a quote from an HVAC guy, they will get all pissy if you buy your own equipment and won't warranty anything. If you get a full parts + install quote, it will be around 4x the cost of this unit.

These are an absolute steal if you have the DIY ability to install yourself.

Anyone know of a way to build a custom box to do multi zone or a box around the inside unit with 3 holes for air output? Can't afford a real multi zone unit. Thanks

Gonna try to install this myself in nyc. Theres already a mini split in the living room with a dead compressor. Just curious what is a reasonable time frame for a return to costco?
I think that varies depending on how much you buy from them and how much you return, but I highly doubt you'd get blowback from them if you returned within 12-18 months.

No. It needs to be installed by a certified tech and i believe you need to do a manual j for ducted systems as an additional step to qualify.
Is that true of the Federal tax rebate? I looked through recently and don't see anything about a certified tech needing to install it for the rebate, I believe you can do them yourself.

It is true of some state / power companies though. Locally our electric company will give us a rebate for installing a heat pump or insulation but we HAVE to use certified contractors on their list. The extra price for paying a contractor isn't worth it to me, but still being able to take the Fed rebate is.

Just as a reference, in June of 2021 the 24K unit was on sale for $1499.00.
Yeah - I noticed the price jumped up when the 4th gen replaced 3rd gen. Slightly better units, but not THAT much better.

In addition to being more DIY friendly, these also have much better efficiency ratings than the cheap ones. Definitely worth the extra price in my opinion.

Lol did you just make this up? Clean energy credits aren't dependent on who installed it but rather how efficient they are. Hence clean energy. 🤦 ♂️

Can anyone who has these speak to how much it affects your electric bill? Some have said their efficiency reduces bills, others have said theirs have skyrocketed. I know tons of variables, but 18k BTU cooling one room is the use case for me. I'd still be using central AC to cool the rest of the house as normal, but this one room upstairs needs this solution.

If you have the ability to run the 220 line, then the installation is pretty simple. Cut a hole all the way through the wall, mount the indoor unit, mount the outdoor unit, connect the pre charged lines….not much more difficult than that.
I bought that one and installed it myself in my 24x36ft shop, works great and heats down to something like -15F outside. Some mini-splits don't heat below 5F or higher, so keep that in mind when looking at specs. Was really easy to install with the charged lines, no pump or gauges needed.

Anyone have issues with these DIY-style units and micro leaks?

Backstory - bought a home with one of these similar units (not this brand) installed a year ago. Word is the previous owner had it installed (5 indoor units) simply to have AC in the home for sales purposes, so I don't know they used it much prior to sale (although it had been installed for more than a year prior to our purchase). They (previous owner) told me they purchased the components but had it installed by a guy that moonlights on his own but whose day job is commercial HVAC installs.

Couldn't test the AC much as we did inspection in the middle of winter, but did test the heat pump portion and it seemed to heat, although I didn't have an idea of what to expect.

Last summer system didn't work (no cool), eventually found out that it was low on refrigerant. Spent about $1200 for evacuation, leak test and recharge only for the AC tech to tell me they couldn't find a leak.

Fast forward to this spring. Same issue - no cooling. AC tech is telling me he needs to inject a dye, wait a few weeks, then look for leaks. That will cost $$, but I am wondering how much $$ I throw at trying to find the problem rather than just saying - I need to recharge it every year.
