The HEEHRA is not related to the Residential Energy Credit. You could claim both for an installation next year. The HEEHRA is a point of sale rebate program and not a tax credit. It is for low and medium income households only (below 80% or below 150% of Area Median income). It is a very substantial rebate that covers up to 100% of the cost (upto $8000) for low income households and 50% of the costs for a medium income. It is not in place currently as the DOE takes its time figuring out the procedures but expected to be in place by mid 2024.
This is the HEEHRA rebate program. Was passed as part of IRA but the DOE taking its own time in setting guidelines. Expected to be available in mid 2024 and will be a point of sale rebate so you won't have to wait till tax time. https://www.rewiringamerica.org/p...rebate-act
These are the MrCool DIY units, so they are installable without a HVAC contractor to vacuum the lines, etc. The lines come pre-charged with coolant

I've been waiting a year for this to come on sale but it looks like this is an inflated price with a sale price added in. I was still going to pull the trigger due to my power companies rebates and the inflation reduction act tax credit but if you look at the AHRI website both models are listed as NO for meeting the tax credit for next year. Doesn't make any sense because it meets all of the listed requirements. I wonder if its just the DIY aspect that takes it out, doesn't state it anywhere.

The prices will come back down only slowly, with technology-related deflation, if at all; that's how inflation works. Inflation dropping doesn't mean prices drop; they just stop going up as fast. Be happy you're not somewhere that really makes a habit of currency debasement, and please stop posting these things saying you don't understand the price increases from 2019 to 2023...

I have 4 rooms on my 2nd floor, should I go with 4 of these or do something else? We use only 2 rooms generally at any time

Right now, I have central ac but it doesn't cool my upstairs, downstairs still to an extent - so was thinking of making it 2 zones.

PS: I will need to run 4 dedicated lines from my main panel to these for sure, and will need to hire an electrician!

I wanted to buy 3k of these units and they wanted 30k to install them.. crazy..

I got the 24k in August of '21 for $1,499 and have loved it in my garage! I was able to install it in a couple of weekends. The bulk of the time was prepping a slab for it to sit on and then running the 220v electrical service from my main panel. The install was pretty straightforward. Lots of videos online to reference. I really like the ability to schedule it which makes my workouts much more comfortable. Highly recommended!

Each condenser would need a power supply - you could buy a multi zone and just need one outlet added. You would have 4 line sets between the outdoor unit and each air handler.

Ah ok! I wish Costco had Multizone ones - does someone have experience with Multizone ones on how effective they are of all are running together? And does it make sense to get a central ac for upstairs rather than Multizone?

You can install this yourself.

If you get a quote from an HVAC guy, they will get all pissy if you buy your own equipment and won't warranty anything. If you get a full parts + install quote, it will be around 4x the cost of this unit.

These are an absolute steal if you have the DIY ability to install yourself.
This is tempting for a partially finished basement where I don't want to invest in a full HVAC system. But we have a relatively high end home. I worry it will impact our ability to sell the home if there's a mini split in the basement (and a visible condenser out of place on the side/back of the home.

Costco also has the one with 2 indoor units and 1 outdoor unit, it looks like the outdoor unit is capable of having 3 zones (27k BTU), so you will have to buy another indoor unit and line set for the third one for $2800 (it's not on sale though):
https://www.costco.com/mrcool-diy...59387.html

Part number for the outdoor unit: DIY-MULTI3-27HP230C
You get 1 9k BTU and 1 12k BTU indoor units.

In addition to being more DIY friendly, these also have much better efficiency ratings than the cheap ones. Definitely worth the extra price in my opinion.
Plus, have you forgotten about inflation? What about the inflation reduction act? These rebates the gov is handing out is going straight to the manufacturers pockets. They just jacked the price up since the rebate eligibility. This is a good deal in new world we live in.

Can anyone who has these speak to how much it affects your electric bill? Some have said their efficiency reduces bills, others have said theirs have skyrocketed. I know tons of variables, but 18k BTU cooling one room is the use case for me. I'd still be using central AC to cool the rest of the house as normal, but this one room upstairs needs this solution.
My energy bill has increased by 50% on average. But my oil consumption is down roughly 66%. I live in Maine.

So sorry, but since you know what you're talking about, is the attached link for the Residential Energy Credit, or a different separate federal tax credit? I'm so confused, but the 30% that you can claim effective this year seems way more than what I thought the typical Residential Energy Credit claim was.

Yes that is the REC. It has also been improved a bit with the IRA and you can reuse this every year until you reach max $2000. Before it was only $300 total.
