Tesla pricing is so dynamic. It goes ups downs on demand. So if we all hold off ordering for a couple of months, by the time Tesla do end of the quarter delivery run, the price will sure be down again, or more promotions like free super charge miles may become available. Don't buy now. Two more months will get you another price drop.
100% everyone. NEVER buy a Tesla at the beginning of the year/quarter. You need to wait until a HUGE cut. They are willing to sell at a LOSS. They don't really care for profits, investors only believe in getting as many cars out there and eventually charging for FSD (LOL). Whether you believe that'll be successful or not you can get a car built at a LOSS and not buy anything after purchase. Wait until they are squeezed and they'll be selling Model Y for under 30k. Just wait.

Not many chargers yet for a long drive in the country. Becoming better but still one has to plan routes around charging stations - spoils the whole trip sometimes.

Why should i have to pay $350 for homelink if i have MyQ? Every car ive had previously the dealer just stuck homelink on their for $400 and i had no say. Homelink is scammy bullshit.
Exactly! Could get MyQ for less than $20 w/ free app. Some lazy people would say "oh but then I'll have to wake phone, launch app, then press button." Yes but doesn't not take that long. Plus, you could also auto open/close on arrival / departure if one has the know how. This could be easily Google/Youtube.

I've been driving an EV since 2019. First a Bolt, then a TM3, and finally into an eTronGT. I still have my ICE cars which I use every now and then. I dread going to the gas station more than I fear having to plug my EV in the comforts of my home. Road tripping takes a little bit more effort and intentional driving to make sure you have a charge station along the way, but it's really not that much of a hassle, especially if that road trip is a once in a blue moon. By now I'm pretty familiar with where the charging stations are along the highway corridors.
I still have 1 ICE, which im going to get rid of, just dont like driving gas cars anymore, too hard...

Charger location certainly makes a difference but fortunately most places i go superchargers are everywhere so its a non issue. If you cant use the supercharger network it may be a totally different experience, although along one of the major highways there is a row of superchargers and a row of charepoint or whatever other brand.

Not going to argue this. But the fact is that someone making more money can buy the exact same car but pay less than someone else, makes zero sense.
What other product is there for the masses that if you make more money you get it cheaper?

And some of the EV's are $40k which is below what the average purchase price of a new car is.
It makes a lot sense.

-- This is a tax program, not welfare. It does NOT refund money you don't owe.

-- Mathematically, it makes sense too. It is not that he is purchasing the car for less -- example:

Person 1: own tax $7500.
Person 2: own tax $3000.

After purchase ev at $50k, both person's tax liability becomes 0.

So equivalently, p1 and p2 both purchase the for the same price and owe 0 tax.

The problem of thinking earning more and paying less is because you don't considering the high incomers also pay more tax.

Would that be worth to buy and rent through Turo? I am living in austin and there are a lot of Tesla's here in Turo. Just curious if anybody doing that and if it worths the dime.

If you drive a ton, can charge at home and qualify for the credits and rebates, this is something to consider if you are in the market for a new car! If you will depend on the Tesla supercharger network or DC fast charging stations I don't recommend going BEV at this time.
So not for me 😔

so your saying that even if you planned out your taxes perfectly where you owe $0 at tax time over what you have already paid and you are due $0, that you WOULD get a refund of $7500 because technically you had a tax liability but have already paid it throughout the year?
Yes. Exactly correct. What you pay or are refunded when you file your taxes has nothing to do with your qualification for this credit. If the tax liability that you accrue for 2023 is at least $7,500, you would get a full refund. Yes, if your total tax liability was exactly $7,500 and you had exactly $7,500 withheld from your paycheck, the IRS would cut you a $7,500 refund check because you would have $14,000 in withholdings and credits.

And your experience with EVs is? I have had at least one EV since 2012 and that has absolutely not been my experience. BMW i3, Tesla Model 3, Nissan Leaf and Chevy Bolt current or previous owner here. Each one has been extremely reliable. While YMMV, this blanket statement is silly.

I'm neutral on the EV and Tesla debates.

I can't understand why Tesla hasn't tweaked the body designs if they're looking to move more units. The two Tesla owners I know (both happy, both with loans paid off, one with a 3, one with an S) tell me they won't consider making a move (and making payments) untilTesla releases updated models. My two friends can't be the only Tesla owners in this situation.
It is the cost, purely the cost.

- new design will require new manufacturing process.
- new design will require more time to settle down and more fit and finish issue for the fist year or so.
- new design will require new trainings of assemble workers.
- new design will certainly needs tens if not hundreds of engineering headcount-year.

All this will eat through the profit margin.

If you are interested in buying a Tesla, Guess how much it would cost to repair a little dent on Tesla Model Y?
Yes, repair costs are high. I can attest to that. That is why insurance might tend to be higher for Teslas. It is all part of a larger cost calculation that has plenty of considerations.

Because you're rich and earning over $300k household
$300k for a family is certainly not rich. Inflation is out of control.

The government has devalued the dollar. People have to make more just to survive, but the IRS hasn't changed tax brackets.

They have effectively raised taxes by putting people in higher tax brackets. Inflation has outpaced raises in many cases, so people have less but still pay higher percentages for tax.

What are the specifics for the $55,000 MSRP limit?

For example, with:

49,990 base price
+1,000 paint
+ 6,000 enhanced autopilot

I'm at $56,990. However, I still get the message that "Your design qualifies for a $7,500 federal tax credit for eligible buyers." Is that true? Do the add-ons not contribute to the MSRP?
