I can also tell you that by 2025 EV cards will be even cheaper than 2024.

Test drove the Model Y in Fremont. Didn't end up buying. But the ride is quiet. Most people think it's noisy because there's no engine noise. Everything seems louder in a quiet cabin.
Tnx, is it very stiff ride, what car would compare with.

Your normal refund amount, and your deductions, have nothing at all to do with eligiblity for the tax credit.

This has been explained roughly every 2 pages for 80 pages now.

Unless congress repeals the entire thing the credits will continue for the rest of the decade.

...what?

Are you under the impression that after a year you can trade the existing car in for a new one and get the original paid price back or something and just keep pocketing tax credits?

(not to mention $7500 wouldn't cover the year of car payments either so not seeing your math working out here?)

All the vehicles in this thread, even BEFORE the $7500 tax credit, are cheaper than the average new car today.

With the credit even moreso.

...why would someone making less than 20k a year be buying a new car that cost 2x their annual salary?
Sorry, I read a lot of replies and seems like I am caught in people trying to argue on both sides (max credit being refund amount vs you get the credit irrespective of the rebate amount. So if you know, can you tell me which way is it? I usually overpay, so I dont have to worry about surprise bill in March/ April. Thanks. Depending on the reply, I might have to adjust my deduction strategy for the year.. Thanks.

For tax credit, if I'm eligible based on 2022 income but not in 2023. I can still get the credit if I take delivery in 2023?

All the Fremont demo Model Ys were Long Range with stock 19" wheels. Very low road noise on 880N despite the freeway having terrible potholes this year. You may want to avoid performance models because they come with thinner performance tires. For comparison, my BMW 3 series came with Perili Zero run flats and it's a very stiff and noisy ride on 880. The Model Y demos were way softer than that.

Withholdings are completely irrelevant to the credit.

As long as your tax obligation (line 24 on your 1040) is $7500 or more you get the full credit.

That's it.

You lost?

Yes. You can use 22 or 23 income for eligibility on taking the credit on your 2023 taxes.

Yeah, the one thing I don't see mention a lot here and what made me decide against ordering (at least for now) was the brake regen driving experience. When Model Y was released you can disable regen completely at the cost of eMPG. But now they removed the option and you can only have "low" regen setting. I don't like the feeling of not having control of my driving experience.

Yeah I know, Tesla has proprietary every bolt in there, but can't beat their price at the moment.

Just go in understanding the drive system is low noise, so there will be more observed road noise versus an ICE, im sure someone has put a db meter and compared ambient output. Sometimes different is just different, not better or worse.

Dang, you have to get the long range to get 7 seats for some reason. So that's $7,000 more to add 2 more seats. That's $3,500 per seat. I realize it adds more range too, but I don't care about the range... not that I'm serious about buying one at the moment. If I could get the 7-seater at base price I'd be way more tempted.

...probably end up with a used Pacifica plug-in at some point.

Sure are a lot of butthurt Tesla simps in here.

Phantom braking is a Tesla-only problem.
Tesla is definitely the worst of the worst when it comes to this issue. They literally have caused deaths. When they don't phantom brake they are smashing into emergency vehicles on the shoulder of roads. This is a serious issue, most people don't realize this will be what ultimately puts Tesla bankrupt. They will sell cars at 0 margins in hopes to sell them future autonomy, but we all know they will fail miserably. Bankruptcy will hit not long after. Let's see if the cult investing group is willing to go broke for their lord and savior Eron Musk.

So regen is a weird feeling it takes a little time to get used to.

Once you do, driving a regular car is awful and annoying.

When I'm driving the Tesla I don't touch the brake pedal. Basically at all. One pedal driving is fantastic. You have complete control- if you don't want to slow down, don't take your foot off the accelerator. It's not actually pretty similar to a manual transmission car in that sense, just that it'll also let you stop down to 0 without needing an extra pedal.

(Plus it's pretty common to go well north of 100k on your original brakes this way)

Except, they're not.

Everything you post is factually, provably, wrong my dude- so why keep doing it?

They literally have not.

But they ARE literally the safest cars on the road- with the lowest chance of injury of any vehicles ever tested by the NHTSA.

driving automatic transmission is highly inefficient for gas consumption. it cost more and more prone to break than manual transmission.. people need to stop support automaker shoving expensive shitty auto tranny down our throat and make more manual tranny cars

...what?

Teslas don't have an automatic transmission. It's a single reduction gear, thanks to the nature of electric motors having instant torque there's no need for multiple gears.

It's vastly more reliable than anything in a gasoline car.

Also, even in gas cars autos are more efficient than manuals anymore... it was the opposite when you have 5-speed manuals and 3-speed slushboxes, but it's not the 70s anymore. That said I agree the high-gear autos are more complex and prone to failing than manuals- but nobody wants a manual anyway and they're irrelevant with EVs.

I live in the Bay Area so a lot of my friend already have Tesla cars and they always say they love one pedal driving. I understand but it's a weird feeling. It feels as soon as you let go of the gas pedal the car is going through molasses.

I'm renting a Model Y in Northern California right now. Granted, it has been through hell at hertz, but it's noticeably louder than most cars I've driven. Also an incredibly annoying rattle that I can't figure out where it is coming from. I'm completely sold on EV's, but I don't think I'm sold on Tesla
