Lower income people shouldn't be buying new vehicles in the first place. The average age of a new car buyer is something like 56 years old, meaning people who have accumulated wealth and are at the top end of their earning years. I'm 42 and still have never purchased a new vehicle because I want some other sucker to take the depreciation hit.

Is there a way/hack around the 300K AGI limit?
There are no income limits if the vehicle is purchased by a business. You can claim the commercial clean vehicle credit. Might be an option for some. Again, you have to have at least $7500 in business tax liability to claim the credit.

I won't buy a Tesla until it supports V2H charging. What does a Model Y have in terms of battery, 61 kWH? That's almost 5 powerwalls worth of storage, for about the same cost, and you get a car for free. It has high current DC available on the plug, so it could easily be coupled to a 3rd party inverter and be useful for load shifting solar so you never pay the rapacious PG&E peak hour rates that us saps in CA are saddled with.

VM, Hyundai and even Ford offer EV's with V2H, but not tesla? Probably because they want to to keeping trying to price gouge with the price of Powerwalls. EV's are way more cost effective battery storage.

Based on this link the leaf doesn't have residential v2h so only the f150? https://www.cars.com/articles/wha...it-457608/ everything else is V2L. Sounds like a long wait

All this talk and no mention of how to get started are you guys buying online or going into the dealership. Is there a waiting line with the reserve system?

. Cadillac and others have self driving.
No, they do not.

They offer an L2 ADAS system.... one which is also thousands of dollars (more thousands in most cases- since they typically force you into the more expensive trims of the vehicle to have the option of paying even more to add the ADAS features). And it's a less capable system that does less things than Teslas L2 system and works on far fewer roads.

The only hack I can think of is to have lets say your father buy the car. You give him the money and he later gives you the 7500/IRS.
That's not a hack, that's a felony (tax fraud)

Tesla does not have traditional dealerships.

Go to tesla.com and order a car. That's it.

Also- literally the first post in the thread has a direct link to do that

My Miata, for one.
Quote from A 2019 Miata owner :
We have a frameless door, which means the windows go, literally, into the roof section when closed. When you open the door, they lower about 1/2" otherwise the glass would still be "in" the roof and you couldn't pull it open

The entire thread has Miata owners talking about how the frameless windows operate exactly the same way as everyone elses. They drop when you open the door.

NOTE- one owner checked and found an actual problem with his car because it was NOT doing that. But it's supposed to. He fixed it by resetting the power window function and now it drops and raises exactly like it's supposed to... maybe you need to try that?

Quote :
This thread is kind of shocking to me. I have a 2019 RF and my windows do not auto down or up when opening the door to form a better seal. Is this a function I have to enable?
That's his original post.

Then he follows it up with:

Quote :
I can't update the original post, so I'll quote my own words. Resetting the power window function resolved this issue for me. Its working by default now. Just in case another soul encountered this problem.

Our community rated this as helpful? Good friggin lord.

Spoiler alert, if you make less than $150K a year, you have no business buying a $50K EV to begin with.

You haven't got a clue what you're saying.

Average income by age [google.com]

If you haven't made a relatively high income by your 50s, you haven't achieved what most have.

People making under 150k and buying a Tesla are truly the reason our society lives in debt. This is not a car you can afford. Truly embarrassing.

Yeah, I'm still driving my "mom's" Acura. I was purchasing my first home at the same time I was purchasing a used car and didn't want it to show as a debt obligation when applying for a mortgage. Bought a 4 bedroom and rented 3 of the rooms out, so I was never going to be at risk of not making the mortgage payments. I've never paid a mortgage or tax payment on that house because rental income has always exceeded the expenses.

All this to say, having someone else purchase on your behalf is a way to take advantage of various subsidies.

The 1 unlikely caveat to this is people who are lower income but have a lot of liquid wealth. Back when I was making $40k/yr, I had saved $80k and used half of it to put 20% down on a mortgage... that said, I had $80k saved up because I wasn't buying $50k vehicles.

The 7500 credit is non refundable, meaning if you need to owe 7500 or more after doing your taxes next year to qualify. if TurboTax says you have a refund, then you don't qualify. Most people don't know this.
That is not what this means... you can get a refund and still qualify for the full 7500. For example if you owed 20,000 in taxes for last year based on income and paid 25,000 from your paychecks, you'd be getting a 5,000 refund. If you bought a qualifying car you'd be getting a 12,500 refund.

If you owed 5,000 for last year based on income and paid 0 from your paychecks, you would owe $5,000 to the IRA. If you bought a qualifying car you'd owe nothing, but get no money back either (the 2,500 would not be refunded to lower your tax burden below $0)

I see where your coming from but fuel is also a factor. Consider how much is spent at the pump each month and combine that with a 30k car instead. Things may look different. But of course it depends on how much you drive.
