We have MF644Cdw and it is pretty great. That model doesn't appear to be available in some areas and no shipping option. These are not small, very heavy, but quick printing and easy to work with using computer or just stand alone. 3rd party toner cartridges can be found for reasonable $50-80 total.

I presume you know that most routers are set up to dynamically assign IP addresses based on need and availability. Therefore it is indeed possible for the printer to have different ip addresses assigned by the router over time. This isn't a fault of the printer. The printer is simply using an ip assigned by the router.

Have you considered setting the router so that it provides a static (not dynamic) address? I've found that the vast majority of wireless printer problems are resolved by doing this. Takes just a minute to accomplish.

I have the MF644Cdw and got it 2019 for $220.. Great printer and been using aftermarket toners from amazon (Search Toner Kingdom on Amazon. usually around $60-80 for the whole set) and it works very well. I have had no problems with wireless printing also, in fact, all my desktops and laptops are connected thru wireless printing. Just needed an occasional restart if that doesnt work (Maybe once in 3-6 months)

Thanks. Could you share links to toner replacement you'd recommend?

For color and b&w? Even for aftermarket that's cheap.

I heard this printer has issues with the wireless networking, otherwise I'd go for it.

Just put in the model number for the printer in Amazon and see what might be on sale when you see the need. I would say you can find good and bad reviews for just about any of them, so just go with the numbers (lots have bought that version etc..). Unless you do a ton of printing, even the "starter" set that comes with it might last you months easy. Lot better than ink when it comes to cost per page in most cases. Just can't "refill" like you can with some ink printers. Main reason we switched for our general printing is ink drying out is what killed our last ink printer. We have an old dell black only laser printer that is many years old. We can fire that up and it still prints without fuss.

Fair concern regarding wireless. For a time, had to uninstall/reinstall everytime after turning it off and back on. It would get like a new ip or something. It doesn't do that anymore and I can't remember the fix other than might have been updated drivers or installed via different method. You could hook it up wired that has wireless part somewhere else if it came down to it.

One of the things you see when comparing units is time of first page print. Once a month, I turn it on just to copy a page or two and then back off. I don't do this for the printer, but just a need use I have for it. Even with powering up time and cool down period, it is still a pretty fast process to print quickly.

I bought the MF644Cdw model probably in 2018 (Don't remember the exact year) for $175. This by far the best printer for me. It has been 0 issues with printing and wireless problem. I mainly print from mobile device and laptop.
Also bought generic toner from Amazon for $70. Been using Brother brand for year before this and always have problem with wireless printing.

Rock solid all-in-one. I got the refurb deal back in 2020 ($200) which includes an extra set of black+color toners. I am still going thru the original set..

What do you like about them? I prefer to go with commercial model HPs as generally speaking, consumer model printers are just a vessel to commit you to buying ink/toner.

So the 644 price is basically double what the people saying good things about it paid a couple years ago? Yikes.

I got this printer for my parents awhile back for just over $200. Toner cartridges are really expensive and if you get generic it gives all kinds of error messages and takes long pauses between prints. Cannon really makes it annoying if you do not buy their cartridges.

Yes they are still a ripoff. The COVID tax is still there for printers, but I have seen deals for the first time in a few years pop up meaning that if you hold out until later this year they will probably be back to reasonable prices.

For instance I got the super duper 7 series in 2020 for $280 733cdw. So maybe in todays inflated dollars thats like $300 or a bit more for a printer that retails for a few hondo more than the 600 series.

Canon is better than the "DRM you don't own it HP", but for consumer printers Brother are the best and then prolly Lexmark. I have a Canon and it is buggy and wireless freezes at random times and I need to reboot. The last two Brother printers I got rid of because the transfer would cost more than the new printer (this is after 70000 pages), and the Canon was cheap. Well it works but its nowhere near as solid as the Brother. I'm looking for reasons to get rid of it, and their management software is unintuitive and also buggy. But it chugs along and faults every couple of weeks, but it today's economy I deal.

Also I would say go ahead, but if you have any smarts avoid HP printers at all costs unless you want HP picking at your pocket all the time and going out of their way to sell you subscriptions and lock out third party cartridges.

Using 3rd party in Brother is never a problem.
