The web site still says not available at my store, when I know for a fact that it is. (I already purchased one). Check the electronics department the next time you're at Walmart. Dont make a special trip.

After reading these articles about cheap Android boxes coming with malware, I'm wary about buying them now.

I was planning to purchase the new Onn box but came across this comment on AFTNews.com [aftvnews.com] :

"google tv sucks it doesn't support landscape mode when mobile app is cloned/converted to landscape, you are forced to use the mobile app & the downloader app doesn't work properly with google tv plus the ads are non-stop
spend the xtra $10 & buy the dynalink android tv box https://www.amazon.com/Dynalink-A...B08YYTVKGZ
its the exact same box as the original onn box just diff remote & everything works properl
y"

Haven't really done a deep dive into the reviews for the aforementioned box on Amazon. Wondering myself if Google TV is really a downgrade compared to Android TV. The downloader app not working properly and the non-stop ads on Google TV would be a problem.
I'm using an old Firestick 4k (2018) and it sucks not having the Google Play store. Lot of the APK's I install for lesser known Apps (using Downloader) either don't look right or just won't install.
As someone stated above custom launcher for these is the way to go. Easy to remove any bloat aps as well.

Not available anywhere. And, cannot purchase online "yet"?
I bought 5 at my local Walmart and it said it wasn't available or sold online. They probably had 20ish in stock.

I have what I presume to be the previous genery. Not a bad little box, especially for the price. I've used several different higher-priced android TV boxes in the past although I've mostly switched to Roku apps, when available. Because of that, I don't push this box too hard and maiinly use it for Kodi, which it seems to handle just fine.

It's too bad that it doesn't have a USB port for external storage but I'm not complaining, as these are well worth the price.

Okay mine is setting up now. It is definitely larger and a lot heavier than the old one probably due to a better heatsink now.

The non-stop ads is a feature of Google Android TV, not this particular dongle. Even Nvidia Shield plays ads after upgrade to certain version of Android TV. The way around is a custom launcher which takes a mild effort to install and configure. I use Wolf launcher on one of my Shields and while it is pretty basic, it does the job. Here is one article that talks about all alternate launchers: https://www.androidtvtricks.com/b...launchers/

TL; DR - I can't recommend for or against either of them so use it at your own risk.

Well... You could isolate the box's ip address and stick it outside your home devices domain (modify router settings, assuming you have one that allows this).

Or, why Android at all?
PC Stick and run EVERYTHING a pc can!
Intel etc makes them.

So far so good, it supports "Apps Only" mode, which the old one didn't.
