This is a junk device. So many better options. They get very very hot

What are you basing your opinion on? How many actual "ANDROID TV" boxes do you know of offers this kind of experience/performance for $20?

According to this link,

https://androidpctv.com/amlogic-s...mparative/ [androidpctv.com]

the Geekbench 4 benchmark shows it is actually slower than the S905Y2 used in the previous
gen. The 3DMark and PCmark are similar.

So, other than the AV1 decoding, the performance looks like a little step backward. Correct me if I'm wrong.
I'd say most likely it's the same speed and the differences you see there are software related.

I have the older generation version of the ONN box and love it. I will pass on this for now since I don't really need another TV box, but will consider buying it should my first one eventually crap out.

I've been running one of these 24/7 for close to two years now. It runs everything i need, does not feel slow, and super easy to install 3rd party apks. The remote is solid too. Using mine mostly for streaming and IPTV.

I did buy a second one and that one had restart issues, might be the overheating problem people mentioned before. Its been in a drawer gathering dust since then. I might open it up and put a thermal pad on it and see if that fixes it.

Still with that, I think its 100 percent worth the $20. Way easier to use than a Firestick 4k, and if it has problems, just exchange it at Walmart.

Does Google TV slow this down, compared to the previous version with Android, which was very snappy?

Does the volume work for Bluetooth devices, like the previous model? My guess is that Google TV might not support that like Android TV, did in the previous model. Hopefully I'm wrong about that.
Google TV on my Hisense TV has not slowed down. This is my first-time using Google TV on streaming box so too early to say.
About volume control, you can control TV unit volume from Onn remote if you are asking that. Onn remote should also support and devices that is connected via TV HDMI and that support HDMI-CEC.

The Original one has issues with lagging due to overheating. Anyone has experience with these?

I've got Android TV built into my 2016 Sony. Running YouTube TV is really really slow on it. Is this a good box to use so that all the lag disappears? More, can you use YTTV from a different region on this box without much issue?

This box doesn't technically support atmos or DV, but FWIW it's actually license restriction, not a hardware one. For apps that don't check for licensing like Emby / Jellyfin, it will pass those through just fine. Not sure about TrueHD though as that has certain HDMI bandwidth requirements (the old 4k box couldn't handle that)
Seems like it, I just setup this device and it says HDR10+, Dolby Vision and Atmos under disabled format. But I was seeing this when it was connected to old Samsung TV. I will check this again when I am connected to my U7H so see if there is any difference.

Depends. Which version of firestick 4k or 4k max?
Do you have TV that supports Dolby Vision and Atmos?
One thing you can be sure of is that it is cheap, and no other streaming device can beat that as of today.

As someone stated above custom launcher for these is the way to go. Easy to remove any bloat aps as well.
how did a custom launcher solve that google tv landscape problem?

I'd stay away from any of these Android TV boxes after the LTT video about them.
I saw the LTT video, and it's apparent there are some things you've missed.

It's easy for the misinformed to lump all these media boxes into one basket.

for ease of understanding, lets break these into two camps:

1. ANDROID TV boxes: as they're commonly referred to, sold by the hundreds on Amazon, Ebay, ect...= no name boxes with cellphone internals and custom GUI <-----where you're going to find hacked firmware. LTT tells you to stay away from this type.

2. GOOGLE TV, sometimes even found built in to television brands. NVidia Shield TV, Xiaomi Mi Box, this ONN media player, and a very few other = are licensed, they run actual Google Tv interface and apps are upgraded via the Play Store. Firmware also upgradable, unlike the former. Chances of running into spyware? not impossible, but often less likely.

Owned the non-AV1 version for years. Great box and great remote. Better than the Google Chromecast one. Even has LineageOS though it will break Netflix or encrypted videos over 480p if you go there.

Use rechargeable batteries over the included batteries.

My remotes stopped working as they kept disconnecting from the boxes even though they had plenty of juice left. Somehow the reagent / reactant in batteries didn't flow right causing disconnects after using the included batteries for several months. Problem resolved with Eneloop batteries.
