I have a top specced 2016 MBP that was 3k, and apple has decided to stop providing macOS upgrades for it, despite the fact that it has 4x the amount of ram than the base MBA. I know the M1 CPU beats the Intel, but it's still 100% capable of running Ventura. It's pretty sad that I only got 5 major macOS versions on this still capable hardware. This is literally the only reason I am looking to upgrade.
Look into OpenCore Legacy Patcher. It lets you run current macOS on legacy hardware that Apple no longer directly supports. I'm running Ventura on a 2012 MacBook Pro, and it works fine.

Performance wise I don't think there is really any reason to upgrade to the m2 version. The only reason I am holding back on the m1 is because this is a 2021 year model, vs m2 being 2023. I don't think there is a way to know for sure, but apple can be jerks around os upgrades with planned obsolescence.

I have been using Monterey for quite a while and recently updated my old 17 MBP15 to Ventura but felt it not so much improvements but being more sluggish, and I was regret of the update. Another M1 MBP14 runs on Ventura and feels much smoother. Perhaps Ventura was optimized for newer hardware, who knows.

I'm also running Ventura on a 2012 MBP (non-Retina) via OCLP. It's no speed demon, but works just fine. I put a SSD in it, though. I don't think I'd want to run Ventura off a hard drive.

Do you have a link? I'm only seeing the M1 Pro 32g for $2199

Edit: ah. Only the 16 inch one is discounted so heavily
Hi, would you mind sharing the link? For some reason, it's not showing up for me. Not sure if I have some configuration set wrong or if it's sold out. Would really appreciate the help!!

I've never owned a Mac, but have been wanting one.
Is there any advantage with the M2 (I've read that the improvements are minimal, and for what I'll use this for, I doubt I will need the extra power anyways)?
If Apple ever updates the OS, would I be able to update or would it be available only the newest models and I would have to pay to update this laptop because it's older hardware?
This $1600 Macbook M1 Pro is overkill for most people. It meant for heavy 4k/8k video editing for hours with a fan, heavy web development, has extra ports. Weighs 3.5lb

The $800 Macbook Air M1 3lb and $400 Windows Swift i5 /$500 Elitebook i5. Do the same general web task for 50-75% off.

Macbooks will get 16hr battery life, 50% better battery performance than 10 hr Windows laptop

Is this a better deal than the M2 air at costco for $100 off? Debating between that or ponying up $500 more bucks for this older generation but Pro version

$1000 base m2 is terrible compared to $800 m1 8gb/16gb and this fully loaded $1600 m1 pro with 16gb.
thats why the m2 arent selling. base m1 has faster ram and ssd.

m1 gen and ipad a13 have unbeatable value and performance

Same here, thought this is the best deal for 16gb ram and 1tb storage. It is backordered, so I am curious if this will ever ship.
