I've been agonizing whether to get this, or keep a 16 inch M1 Max 32gb RAM 1tb ssd for $2499. I posted about it in another MacBook thread the other day but every time I think I've made a decision I get indecisive all over again lol. Love the form factor of the 14" but got a killer deal on the M1 Max and when I'm working off the screen it really is gorgeous. But it's heavy and cumbersome and a generation older than the m2. I also have an external monitor that I could plug the 14" into. But the M1 Max has that extra RAM and when I'm on the sofa or in bed, it's not as comfortable on my lap as the 14", but my eyes strain less and everything just looks beautiful. Speakers are nicer too.

Not sure if anyone has advice or opinions but very appreciative of any two cents you might be willing to give in favor of one or the other… it's been something I've been wrestling over for like two weeks now lol.

I was super torn when I bought my first apple silicon macbook. I'm glad I went 16".
Just so much more screen real estate, and in reality my macbook is my "home laptop" that basically never leaves the house.

I work from the couch or kitchen table a lot too, so pairing with a monitor isn't always possible.

IMO the mini-LED really shines with the big 16" screen. When I compared the 14" mini-LED to the old 13.3" LCD regular screen I didn't feel like it was that much different.

I do hate how heavy this fricking thing is though.

Now I'm torn... heard the M1 pro is better but for a $200 difference this is a newer model.

So do I get this model for $1800

Or this one at BB for $1600?

https://www.bestbuy.com/site/macb...Id=6450853

Or should I opt for 1 TB M1 pro @ $2000?

It was on sale via micro center a couple weeks ago but ended quickly.

Keep the 14. Sell/Return the 16 and buy a studio when with the same config and connect to a premium display.

The 14 is just right for size and the screen has great real estate. I upgraded from MBA to this and the MBA is awesome…but this thing runs Parallels and OSX without putting a dent into the system.

The fans will turn on for heavier video editing work but that's the only time I've heard them.

It is an expensive laptop and I paid the premium for extra storage… but it's worth every penny.

I would go to the store and touch, pick up and hold both. I wanted the 16 and ended up going with the 14 for that reason. My use case is mostly on the couch as I have a work laptop. If I need some serious productivity then I take it upstairs and plug it into my docking station and monitors. So far I am loving the form factor and weight. It is very conducive to just toting around places. I oped for the 1tb version M2 which also has some performance improvements ove the base model and is thus also more comparable to the m1 max

I keep hearing that they will be unveiling the M3 in June, so that might be why.

Do you actually need the extra ram and compute? If not keep the 14, especially if you prefer the form factor. I think the 16 is most worth it for people who need the extra screen real estate for productivity (code, media editing, etc.) not just because it's "gorgeous". If you have a good external monitor for the 14 then it's a no brainer. Save the $700 for apple AR glasses

I feel it's similar to phones, if you are accustomed to a larger size, its gonna be real weird to move down to a smaller size.
