I am a fan of All-Clad, owning multiple pieces of their cookware, including recent additions such as the $515 D5 Stainless 5-Ply 12 Quart Stock Pot with Lid [all-clad.com] and $249.99 D5 Stainless Brushed 5-ply Bonded Cookware, Fry Pan, 12 inch [all-clad.com]. These D5 products are excellent, and I highly recommend them as long as they're within budget. The D3 is likely ideal for most home cooks.

With that said, the Essentials line from All-Clad is their lowest-end one. I'm not necessarily saying they're bad products, and they're likely better than most cookware products available at department stores, but do note that their Essentials line isn't the same as their traditional lines. For example, Essentials are made in China, whereas All-Clad products are mostly made in the USA. The materials used are obviously not the same as their stainless steel products. Fortunately, these Essential non-stick products still have a limited lifetime warranty.

This chart [salsify.com] helps show the differences between the All-Clad lines.

The $669.99 list price is highly exaggerated and rather misleading. This exact product has a regular price of $449.93 at All-Clad.com [all-clad.com], and is currently on sale for $399.99.

I hope this helps,
Tofu Vic
Keep in mind that non-stick coatings will not last for long term use, even if you baby it. Most pro chefs consider such pans disposable… and recommend you get them as cheap as possible. Personally I don't want to cook with PFAS/Teflon coatings that might be hazardous and lose their only benefit (non-stick) with a scratch or just regular wear.

Carbon steel and cast iron can have very good non-stick properties but takes a bit of work to season. But no major health concerns that I know of. Also these last forever and the surface can be reseasoned.
There's no reason to own this much nonstick

The bulk of your equipment should be stainless

Afaik the only issue is if you overheat them, there can be off-gassing (iirc it was PFOA that was *potentially* harmful, not proven harmful, and they got rid of it anyway). The very reason why Teflon is non-stick is *because* it does not react with other substances (its tricky to get it to bond to the pan to begin with!). This property also renders it biologically inert when ingested. Teflon fears are very much overblown.

That may be so, but if I can get similar results with a well-seasoned carbon steel or cast iron pan, why take the chance ingesting PFAS/PFOA etc? I'm already full of micro plastics but would rather not add to that.

As long as you baby it, they'll last long. Most don't and abuse it like chefs lol.

The ones that are disposable are the Tfal ones that costs like $10 and have only a paper thin coating of non stick.

Why take the chance with anything acidic in a carbon steel pan, though? I'm so paranoid about cooking in carbon steel, too, these days. That's why I tend to cook in just stainless pans. No risk.

I got that set and it's 4 D3 pans, and three lids vs 6 disposable pans and lids plus $5 in silicone trivets in this deal. Sounds like you already have stainless pans though. Either way I'd save my money and not bother with this set, personally.

Btw why are you paranoid about cooking in carbon steel? Ppl here and other reviewers are saying for non-stick purposes you can use carbon steel and cast iron. For acidic you use stainless. Don't even need tri-ply if it's soups and sauces.

Agree with this. I'm still using my Circulon Infinite (non stick) set daily that was given as a wedding present 16 years ago.

Not the prettiest anymore, but every piece still has an intact, working non stick coating.

Mostly I'm tired of having so many pans because you can't do x with this pan or y with that one. I'd like one excellent set and be done.

Yep. Would never buy this set. I have a few ns pans for specific uses (omlettes for example). Having a whole set makes no sense. All my other pans work great for their use - and I'll never have to replace them, unlike this set.

Citation needed. And zero makers use PFAS in PTFE cookware these days.

I love my d5 set but wish I had your stock pot! My parents are in the market for new cookware and despite my objections for so many reasons, they want non-stick. Do you happen to know if the lifetime warranty covers the non-stick coating or I'm guessing it's considered normal wear and tear?
