Took a quick look at the current router pricing - everything seems to be at or above manufacturer suggested pricing. Ultimately, for TP-Link's routers, at least, I don't think this is as much of a deal as it appears.

Maybe if Amazon puts them on sale later.

It's also Chinese brand, meaning the software is controlled by them too. Pass.

So what brand of router is not running software developed in China/Taiwan/Philippines/India?

If you go for this, go for the Amazon Visa card. That way if you shop at Whole Foods you get the Amazon Prime member discount + 5% back on your purchases.

I don't have any issues with Taiwan, Philippines or India. I have a problem with communist China and how their government (CCP) is involved with any major corporation.

Bottom line is, you want the equipment to be backed by a company that respects and is subject to American laws. China doesn't care. Just look at Huawei.

Ok, which networking company would that be? Asus? Netgear? Google? Cisco? Broadcom? What networking company does not use software (or especially hardware chips) that are sourced and/or developed in China?

I'm not saying "we should trust China". I'm more trying to show how limited our options are. afaik, there are none.

First of all, a lot of "development" doesn't happen in China. It's more around manufacturing and assembly.

I recognize the limited options, and why it is so important than ever for us to support the right businesses to keep our options open. I don't trust necessarily the other companies, but the backdrop is that they are going to be more respective of American laws and not go rogue like Huawei. The other part of it is, you are furthering enriching and empowering companies that has strong ties to CCP and allowing stronger influence.

We already see this in almost every electronic now. The next step for them is to attain technological design and development. They've either stolen or been given technology for free. They've even blackmailed citizens to get that information.

That's one aspect of it, and the other is even if they manufacture the hardware and assemble it, the control of the software still lies with the western owned companies. Their interest is profit, not control of people that CCP would.

I'm saying this as someone who is Chinese and where my parents where refugees from authoritarian regime (that we call communists). I've traveled and have extensive experience with how communist party and their government works in both China and Vietnam.
