Pros are for being used a LOT at fairly high draw, not occasional low grade use.

I need a few more of the AAA batteries because I have some of those annoying flashlights that takes 3 AAA size.
I'm working my way through a big package of Costco alkaline batteries but I'd much rather use these rechargeable batteries.
No leaking and just charge them when they need it.

Here's an excellent review from a guy that actually knows what he's talking about. :

And a couple snips from the review that sum it up:
[Panasonic has a line of NiMH chargers, some are fast and smart, others dumb. This one here is a slow and smart charger.
Conclusion
The charger is very good at filling the batteries. No trickle charge is an advantage for LSD cells. Compared to the CC16 this one only has one charger circuit, the CC16 has two. With AA batteries the CC16 reduces the actual current, this one changes the duty cycle, but due to the lower current there is not much difference in the charge current in the pulses.
I believe this is a good but slow NiMH charger.]

Did the costco version leak? I thought they changed it and are now meant to stay shelf stable for 10 years with minimal droppage and no leaks. I haven't had any of the newer ones. Been almost 6 years or maybe longer since I bought costco batteries. Been running off rechargables but I need some shelf stable batteries

I recently went through an older set of AA alcaline Costco batteries with my battery tester and maybe a little more than a third of them had just a little power in them when I checked. They hadn't leaked but they had lost the power. Those were the old package ones.
My AAA were purchased in November and are in the new packaging.
