...also, these are old Intel units, not Apple's new M1 or M2 chip. Regardless, I'd definitely go for new & legit warranty @ Costco over the "Woot Warranty".

Depends.... How big are your spreadsheets? Three busy enough excel spreadsheets can give nearly any computer a struggle, but that's rather rare to bump into.

That is where they make their profit. While those upgrades likely cost them less than $20 they can charge an extra $400 to the customers.

This is by design and not them being cheap but forcing the end user into outlandish upgrade prices.

Add a $300 4K monitor and you're doing alright for that same $1000. Personally, I'd take a Mac any day of the week, but if you're set on Windows, you can indeed get a more capable machine for gaming.

I might try to get BB to price match this Costco deal, as I have some gift cards to use up there.

I'm surprised they are still even being sold. Any Intel mac is considered obsolete at this point especially considering the drastic efficiency and performance jump you get with the M chips.

Hilarious to read through all the naysayer comments on the 2021 iMac.

Please, if you will, humor us all and put together a package for $1,000 that meets or beats this unit's 8 core CPU / GPU Passmark scores, SSD read/write speeds, 4.5k 100% P3 color space monitor at 218 ppi and 500 nits, WiFi speed of 760 MBit/s, two (2) Thunderbolt 3's at 40Gbps, two (2) USB 3.1 Gen 2's at 10Gbps, a 1080P webcam and microphones of this quality, and a six (6) speaker sound system that is equally as superb.

Also, don't forget the cost of a keyboard with fingerprint login and a mouse capable of multi touch input.

We will all be waiting for the cost of the i7 system or better it will take to beat this iMac at $1,000. You can try, but if you can't put the system together right here right now, well, then you simply live in a world where measurable objective criteria are meaningless.

Waiting endlessly for a link to something even marginally better in all of these metrics at $1,000 or less.

Oh, and don't worry, there will be no requirement that it be less than 10lbs or 1/2 inch thick like the iMac.

Meets or beats this system was the challenge.

It's unified memory if you had a clue.

Look at the Passmark CPU and GPU scores. It's a blazing chip and easily matches currently near the top Intel and AMD 16GB systems.

2 years old already and few systems surpass it.

Also, you got a problem with 40Gbps Thunderbolt 3 / USB-C SSD external drive? Be realistic please.

You're the same individual that was opposed to non-removable batteries in cellphones and laptops at one time I suspect.

fwiw, I use this exact iMac as my primary machine, after using the 27 inch iMacs for years and find it just fine. Main uses: basic work stuff (email, google slides presentations etc.) and personal stuff (music production on Ableton) so not super heavy usage. If I was doing a ton of photo editing etc. I would want a bigger screen but it has been a surprisingly great machine for me in the sense that I barely notice it at all.
