Purchased this fridge from Lowe's last week for $1899 and the very next day it dropped to $1594 so had Lowe's price match with no issues. I thought the window in the door would be gimmicky but I use it more than I thought I would. This is a counter depth fridge but feels like a standard depth with the storage space. The app for the fridge tracks the air and water filter life, electricity consumption, and the number of times the fridge/freezer door is opened, temperature setting, and energy saver. Refrigerator is very quiet, loudest thing is the ice maker. I've heard the horror stories about LG compressors but I've read that issue should be resolved by now plus this has a 10 year warranty on the compressor.
If you follow the advice here you'll never buy a refrigerator. Everyone hates every brand except for the one they bought 35 years ago which is still running.
The most reliable models seem to be the circa 1920 French door ice boxes. No electricity to worry about, no bad compressors, evaporators, control boards, and if you needed ice, you just use a pick and chip yourself off a chunk. Although, if LG and Samsung were making ice boxes back then, I still feel like they would have major issues.

Every fridge post tends to devolve into complaints. Is there any consensus on best model for a French door fridge with ice maker?

My question too. It seems all the companies have terrible customer service, defective items here and there, and most fridges seem to run okay. I see a lot of hate for Samsung and LG but when I read the reviews I can't see a difference in complaints between them and Whirpool, GE!

Is there a consensus that extended warranties are necessary on these LG fridges. ?

My local Big Sandy Superstore has it for $1799 so way under the $2500 mark everyone else has it and they service what they sale.

EVERY refrigerator will fail. New or old regardless of style.

I'm going on year 16 of our LG french door fridge. I guess any fridge will fail at some point, so your argument still holds.

I have a Danby dorm room size fridge that I bought in 1978 and it still works 45 years later. I just gifted it to my daughter.

Every product will fail at some point and exceptions to the rules do not change the rules. Lol

They seem to have made every Fridge unnecessarily complicated and WTH is with wifi in a fridge now? The LG french door we have had been going well until this week when it stopped dispensing water and ice. 4 years without issue and thankfully I bought the extended warranty since it was the cost of 1 service call probably. Tech replaced the whole door and internals and so far its working. The cooling inside never went out. I do like my LG since the ice is all in door itself with an extra ice maker in the bottom.

Watching the replaced door be put in, I wonder why they don't run all the wiring through a conduit so it can all be replaced rather than foaming it in with the insulation so it cant be replaced?????
